At the heart of Hero Games’ Duet Night Abyss (DNA) lies its accessible yet deep combat loop. With multiple mechanics at play, DNA’s high-skill ceiling gameplay is easy to get into but difficult to master. The combat system rewards a tactical and proactive approach while testing the player’s quick reactions.

Duet Night Abyss mixes melee and ranged attacks into a rhythmic slasher-shooter combat. You also have Combat Skills, Ultimate Skills, and a Sanity Mechanic to manage, which adds another layer of complexity. To make the most of it, you must swap between melee and ranged attacks while using your Combat and Ultimate Skills. Here’s a guide on Duet Night Abyss’s combat and gameplay mechanics.

Basics of Combat in Duet Night Abyss

The fundamentals of combat include knowing the two most common forms of weapon damage: Melee and Ranged. Melee weapons are generally reserved for close-quarters combat, while Ranged Weapons deal damage from afar. Ranged Weapons usually have lower damage than Melee Weapons and a higher risk of missing your shots. However, both weapon types need to be swapped situationally to optimize your damage.

Duet Night Abyss allows you to Dash, which makes you invincible for its duration. You are also allowed to perform air dashes and combine Dashes up to two times. However, dashing twice puts it on a three-second cooldown, leaving you with limited defensive options.

Combat and Ultimate Skills

These are powerful abilities that can be used offensively, defensively, or to provide movement buffs. The effects of these skills can change depending on whether you hold the button down. Ultimate Skills usually consume more of the Sanity meter than Combat Skills, but provide greater rewards in damage or buffs.

Sanity System

Duet Night Abyss’s Sanity system lets you use Combat and Ultimate Skills in the game. Sanity is limited and only regenerates every five seconds. To use it optimally, you must find openings in your enemy’s attack patterns and strike at the right moment.

Elemental Damage System

Hydro, Anemo, Electro, Pyro, Lumino, and Umbro are the six elemental damage types in Duet Night Abyss. Different characters have unique affiliations with each element that define their combat and ultimate skills. Whenever you deal damage to an enemy, there is a chance to trigger an elemental effect on it.

Combat Partners

Duet Night Abyss allows you to summon up to two Combat Partners if you’re playing solo. You can summon Combat Partners by equipping Sigils in your Tactical Backpack. However, if you’re playing online, the number of summoned partners might be reduced or unavailable.
