In this article, we will look at the Pokemon that deserve a slot on your team as powerful Special Attackers in Legends Z-A.

The small Pokedex of Legends Z-A means that there are fewer Special Attackers to pick for your Pokemon team. However, the reintroduction of Mega Evolutions means that there are certainly some powerful choices that stand out. So, in this article, we will look at the best Special Attackers in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
Best Special Attackers in Pokemon Legends Z-A Tier List
These Pokemon are considered the strongest Special Attackers in Legends Z-A:
| Tier | Pokemon |
|---|---|
| S-Tier | Mega Zygarde |
| A-Tier | Mega Alakazam, Mega Chandelure, Mega Gengar, Mega Gardevoir |
| B-Tier | Mega Ampharos, Mega Drampa, Mega Delphox, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Floette |
| C-Tier | Mega Dragonite, Mega Camerupt, Mega Meganium, Mega Froslass, Mega Lucario, Mega Houndoom |
S-Tier

There is only one Special Attacker in Pokemon Legends Z-A that stands above the rest:
| Pokemon | Reasoning |
|---|---|
| Mega Zygarde | Special Attack: 216. In addition to having the highest Special Attack of any Pokemon in existence, Mega Zygarde got a new move, Nihil Light. It has a base power of 200, and despite being a Dragon-type move, it can bypass any stat changes of the opponents and even the typing’s usual immunity to Fairy. This means it hits anything for powerful neutral damage except for Steel-types. And since Zygarde’s secondary type is Ground, it can deal super effective damage to them as well, effectively leaving it with no counters. |
A-Tier

These are powerful Special Attackers that you can consider using before unlocking Mega Zygarde:
| Pokemon | Reasoning |
|---|---|
| Mega Alakazam | Special Attack: 175. After Mega Evolution, Alakazam’s two best stats, SpA and Speed, rise drastically. And this has been all it needs to stay more than relevant. Additionally, it has a bizarrely vast movepool. This includes Shadow Ball, Energy Ball, Focus Blast, and Dazzling Gleam. |
| Mega Chandelure | Special Attack: 175. On Chandelure’s debut in Generation V, it was the fifth strongest Special Attacker out of all Pokemon. Fast forward to Legends Z-A, Mega Chandelure is now sporting a 175 SpA stat and two spammable STABs in Ghost and Fire. And it has Energy Ball for Water-, Ground-, and Rock-types. |
| Mega Gengar | Special Attack: 170. In Legends Z-A, Mega Gengar does not have its Ability Arena Trap to pull off Perish Trap strategies. But it can rely on its massive SpA stat of 170 and the fact that Ghost has become one of the most spammable types in modern Pokemon. All it needs to do is carry Focus Blast for Dark-types to dominate the meta. |
| Mega Gardevoir | Special Attack: 165. It is a powerful Psychic/Fairy-type. Additionally, it also has useful coverage like Mystical Fire, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball as well. Gardevoir can also boost its SpA further with Calm Mind. |
B-Tier

These Pokemon have a few flaws that make them difficult to use, but they can be used with some careful play:
| Pokemon | Reasoning |
|---|---|
| Mega Ampharos | Special Attack: 165. This Pokemon benefits greatly from both the small number of Electric-type Pokemon and Speed working differently in Legends Z-A. It’s by far the best Electric-type in the meta, with its additional Dragon-typing giving it useful resistances as well. |
| Mega Drampa | Special Attack: 160. Despite its poor movement Speed, this Pokemon goes from almost forgettable to fierce after Mega Evolution. It even has access to Fire Blast, Flamethrower, and Focus Blast to deal with the Steel-types, which its STABs cannot deal super effective damage to. |
| Mega Delphox | Special Attack: 159. This Pokemon will be arriving soon when its Mega Stone Delphoxite is rewarded for participating in Season 2 of Z-A Ranked Battles. And it’s worth it due to a great movement speed, powerful offensive typing in Fire/Psychic, and access to coverage moves like Shadow Ball and Focus Blast. |
| Mega Charizard Y | Special Attack: 159. While Mega Charizard X is more focused on Attack, Mega Charizard Y is a powerful Special Attacker. It may not be able to summon the sun due to the lack of abilities in this game. However, it has decent movement speed and hits decently hard after Mega Evolving. |
| Mega Floette | Special Attack: 155. Eternal Flower Floette was first introduced as a more powerful version of the basic Floette. However, it wasn’t until Legends Z-A that they actually got to use it in battle. And it even comes with a brand new Mega Evolution. |
C-Tier

These Pokemon can act as Special Attackers but are overshadowed by those higher on this list:
| Pokemon | Reasoning |
|---|---|
| Mega Dragonite | Special Attack: 145. Dragonite becomes a powerful Special Attacker compared to its base form after Mega Evolution. However, it starts out as a physical attacker before Mega Evolving, making it unwieldy if you choose not to do so. |
| Mega Camerupt | Special Attack: 145. It hits very hard with both of its STABs. However, its slow movement and 4x weakness to the common Water-type holds it back. |
| Mega Meganium | Special Attack: 143. This Pokemon has decent bulk in addition to a more than usable SpA stat. However, its Grass/Fairy-typing has many weaknesses, including a 4x weakness to Poison. |
| Mega Froslass | Special Attack: 140. It has a very powerful STAB combo of Ice and Ghost, and is capable of moving fast enough to use. However, it is also frail and struggles to take many hits. |
| Mega Lucario | Special Attack: 140. Even without its Ability Adaptability, Mega Lucario is a great Pokemon. However, it is very frail despite having a partial Steel-typing. |
| Mega Houndoom | Special Attack: 140. Mega Houndoom has a powerful Fire/Dark STAB combo. However, if it cannot one shot its opponent, it will go down fast. |
