There are a total of 3 weapon types in Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment. These are:

  • One-handed Weapons
  • Two-handed Weapons
  • Spears

The weapon types in Age of Imprisonment are essentially the same as in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, the biggest difference here is the combos. Each weapon type is tied to specific combos, which are further fueled by the character’s abilities. Furthermore, different weapon types come with varying DPS stats.

As such, it’s not as simple as just picking the weapon that does the most damage. Instead, you need to take into account the character you will be playing as well as the combos that best suit your preferred playstyle. Furthermore, some of the weapons you can obtain in the late-game are tied to specific characters.

For instance, the Blade of Light is exclusive to Zelda. At the same time, the Spear of Light is only usable with Rauru.
