While the name itself is implying this character could be some kind of mystery, others strongly believe it is a version of Link. In every major title part of the Zelda franchise, Link, or a version of this character, is present in one way or another. In the story, only Princess Zelda was sent back in time to Ancient Hyrule to aid King Rauru in the Imprisoning War while Link is in the present.

As a prequel, there is no way the Link in Tears of the Kingdom is the same as in Age of Imprisonment. However, there are some ways the Mysterious Construct could be connected to the hero of Hyrule.

Similar Animations, Different Abilities

In Tears of the Kingdom, Link nearly lost his arm after Ganondorf attacked him with Gloom. King Rauru imbued his Zonai arm to the young Hylian and allowed him to use their ancient power. The Mysterious Construct shares similar fighting moves, but with a twist. This character can transform themselves into constructs.

They also have the ability to fly, which can come in handy during the Imprisoning War. The Mysterious Construct could be a version of Link sent by Princess Zelda to aid them in the past and a fierce ally for the Sages.
