Tips and Tricks for Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment
1) Familiarize Yourself With Each Character
There are a handful of playable characters, including Princess Zelda herself, King Rauru of the Zonai, and many more. Most of the Sages have abilities that resemble the moves of their present-day descendants. It is best to spend time with each of them to get a better grasp of where they can stand out.
2) Bob and Weave
While the gameplay is intense, there is no shame in dodging or blocking. To block incoming attacks, you can hold ZL on your Joy-Cons or Switch 2 Pro Controller. However, if blocking is not your style, dodging is a better option. It can even work if you time your dodges, and it will buy you a few seconds to counterattack, similar to Tears of the Kingdom.
3) Take Advantage of Sync Strikes
One of the new features in the Hyrule Warriors games is the Sync Strikes. It is essentially a way for characters to fuse their abilities and perform more powerful attacks. Triggering this can be tricky, especially since your characters must be close to one another and the gauge must be completely full.

You will revisit some iconic locations from Tears of the Kingdom, such as the Depths, and other areas in Ancient Hyrule. This game is set during the Imprisoning War, and King Rauru assembled his Sages to gain more ground. We recommend focusing on outposts marked on the map to win the fight fast.
5) Switch to Different Characters if Necessary
Unlike the previous Legend of Zelda games where Link is the only playable hero, you have many more options in Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment. As mentioned earlier, each character has different attacks. The best part is that you can freely switch between them by pressing buttons on the D-Pad. This can help when battles get intense or if you need a breather.
6) Complete Quests and Other Side Objectives
While Age of Imprisonment is not an open-world experience, there is no shortage of quests and challenges. You can access the menu to track and monitor active challenges and more. Similar to Tears of the Kingdom, this is a good way to gain resources for player upgrades.
7) Size Does Matter
Once you are engaged in battle, we recommend focusing your attacks on the biggest and strongest enemies first. They are often surrounded by smaller variants that are easier to take down, but eliminating the larger foes early will make fights much more manageable.
