One of the achievements you can complete in the Roots Update in Peak is cooking a Mandrake and eating it to get the Cryptogastronomy Badge. However, this achievement is easier said than done. This medicinal root screams and causes your character to feel sleepy with the Drowsy affliction. This can be a problem when carrying a Mandrake with you to the nearest campfire, as you have the tendency to faint.
That said, here is a guide on cooking a Mandrake and completing the Cryptogastronomy Badge in Peak.
Where To Find Mandrake
A Mandrake can be found alongside a shrub of medicinal roots in the Roots Biome in Peak. At first, they show up as an ordinary medicinal root. However, pulling it out will reveal that it has a face and will start screaming. Be careful with its screams as it can apply a Drowsy affliction, causing you and players around you to faint after a brief moment.
The Roots Biome is guaranteed to appear after clearing the Shore Biome until November 17, 2025. This is the perfect time to find some Mandrake and complete all the Roots Badges before the rotation changes.
How To Cook and Eat Mandrake in Peak
Once thing to keep in mind is that Mandrake’s screams can cause you to faint. This is why you will need to find a way to cook it before that happens. The easiest and safest way to cook a Mandrake is to use a portable stove. This allows you to cook the medicinal root anywhere without having to find the nearest campfire. This item is commonly found in the Shore Biome.
Having this item is a necessity in the game. You’ll never know when you will need to cook food on your journey. Needless to say, having one helps a lot in surviving the Roots Biome in Peak. Once you place the portable stove or find a campfire, place the Mandrake and cook it. Once it’s done, simply eat it to get the Cryptogastronomy Badge and unlock the Sprout Hat cosmetic.
However, make sure you place the portable stove in a safe spot. There are many dangers lurking around the biome. Clouds of pink smoke will also drift in the air, which can drastically drain your health. Fungal zombies can also spawn in the Roots Biome. Their bites can cause an infection and can be lethal. Make sure to avoid these areas and find a safe spot, preferably with good cover.
