Learn how to increase Crown Power in Europa Universalis 5 (EU5) and improve revenue while maintaining national stability.
Crown Power is an important stat to focus on for building a stable and powerful nation in Europa Universalis 5. It provides modifiers that contribute to the nation-state’s performance, most importantly, allowing you to make money easily in EU5.
Improving Crown Power will increase revenue, strengthen your hold over the nation, and allow you to comfortably exert control over neighboring states.
Europa Universalis 5: Crown Power Guide
To check your current Crown Power, head to the Government tab, select the Estates menu, and click the percentage beneath the crown icon. These are the several methods to improve Crown Power:
- Reduce Estate Authority
- Increase Control
- Increase Legitimacy
- Enact Reforms
- Royal Court
- Increase Ruler’s Administrative Ability
- Change Values

Reduce Estate Authority
The Estates in EU5 include the Clergy, Nobility, Burghers, and Commoners. Decreasing the power and privileges of the Estate will lead to a direct increase in Crown Power.
- Revoke privileges granted to an Estate by right-clicking the privileges appearing at the bottom of the Estate’s menu.
- Revoking privileges can cost satisfaction and legitimacy and create discontent within an Estate.
Increase Control
The greater a ruler’s Control over their population, the higher their base Crown Power. Most other methods to increase Crown Power do so by increasing its percentage, so the base Crown Power generated by Control is crucial.

Increase Legitimacy
High Legitimacy provides a percentage bonus to Crown Power, with a maximum Legitimacy of 100 providing +10% Crown Power. Use the following methods to improve Legitimacy:
- Use Strengthen Government cabinet action.
- Invest in the Cost of the Court.
- From the Economy tab, select the Balance Menu and move the Cost of Court slider to the right. Ideally, keep the slider on the extreme right until your ruler reaches 100 Legitimacy.

Enact Reforms
Use government reforms like Royal Decree and Autocracy to gain +10% Crown Power per reform. To enact the reforms for a quick Crown Power boost, head to the Government tab and select Estates. Click the plus sign under the crown icon and choose the reform.
Royal Court
Constructing the Royal Court building will give you a +10% to Crown Power. While the structure is expensive to build, with multiple types of resources required, its increase in Crown Power is worth the investment.
Increase Ruler’s Administrative Ability
The ruler’s Administrative Ability can add to Crown Power. You cannot adjust the current ruler’s Administrative Ability. However, you can improve it in the future by giving the ruler’s children administrative education.
Change Values
Head to the Government tab and open the Values menu. Here, you can move toward the Centralization value to gain +50% Crown Power. However, changing values is a gradual process, and it can shift with several decisions taken over time, such as revoking an Estate’s privileges. If you are following most of the policy changes to improve Crown Power highlighted in this guide, your nation will steadily move toward the Centralization value.
