The Ryzen 7 7800X3D was the best gaming CPU for almost two years, but it was also quite costly. AMD released a more affordable version called Ryzen 5 7600X3D, which had only six cores instead of eight. However, both CPUs have the same amount of X3D cache. Since the higher cache is the main secret behind their superb gaming performance, do other factors, such as core count and clock speeds, matter?

In other words, will the loss of two cores decrease the gaming performance of the Ryzen 6 7600X3D? We believe it will. In this article, we will show you what percentage of performance impact you can expect, with a detailed comparison of the two CPUs.

Ryzen 5 7600X3D vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D: Detailed Comparison

Both Ryzen 5 7600X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D are based on AMD’s Zen 4 architecture and have X3D cache. Also, the former is a Ryzen 5 CPU, and the latter is a Ryzen 7. Therefore, they are six and eight-core processors, but that’s not the only difference between them. Let’s take a look at their full specs to get a better idea of what they are capable of.

The differences are quite clear. The Ryzen 5 7600X3D has two fewer cores, lower speeds, and consumes less power compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Everything else remains the same between the two CPUs, including the cache size.

Synthetic Performance Comparison

Here’s how the Ryzen 5 7600X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D perform in popular synthetic benchmarks:

BenchmarksAMD Ryzen 5 7600X3DAMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Cinebench R23 (Single-Core)17021785
Cinebench R23 (Multi-Core)1346918193
Geekbench 6 (Single-Core)26622657
Geekbench 6 (Multi-Core)1239315319
Passmark CPU (Single-Core)35833759
Passmark CPU (Multi-Core)2568334293

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is around 3.2% faster on average than the Ryzen 5 7600X3D single-core benchmarks. However, the former delivers about 31.8% higher scores than the latter in multi-core benchmarks. This was to be expected, as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has more cores.

However, it also won in single-core, which is primarily due to its higher clock speeds. It’s clear that core count and higher clock speeds matter in productivity, but will they matter in gaming, especially since they have X3D chips? Let’s find out.

Game Performance Comparison

Here’s how the Ryzen 5 7600X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D handle some of the popular games on the market:

GamesAMD Ryzen 5 7600X3DAMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Cyberpunk 2077247 FPS260 FPS
Cyberpunk 2077 RT (DLSS)124 FPS124 FPS
Forza Horizon 5316 FPS317 FPS
Black Myth: Wukong175 FPS174 FPS
Assetto Corsa636 FPS643 FPS
Naraka: Bladepoint474 FPS462 FPS
War Thunder Bench (Heavy CPU Dependency)409 FPS430 FPS
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt299 FPS302 FPS
Red Dead Redemption 2229 FPS234 FPS

Note: The two CPUs were tested at 1080p resolution with the RTX 4090 GPU to eliminate any GPU bottleneck. All FPS numbers were sourced from the Hardware Tested channel on YouTube.

On average, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D delivers 1.3% more frame rates than the Ryzen 5 7600X3D. Therefore, the core count had little to no performance difference in gaming. The tiny 1.3% difference is probably due to clock speed differences.

Price Comparison

The Ryzen 5 7600X3D is currently selling for about $295 on Amazon. On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D sells for $398 on Amazon. Therefore, the latter costs $105 more, which is also 34% more expensive.

Final Verdict on Ryzen 5 7600X3D vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is better than the Ryzen 5 7600X3D in productivity by up to 31.8%, but it is also 34% more expensive. Therefore, the more you pay, the more performance you get.

However, you don’t buy these X3D CPUs for productivity but rather for gaming, where there is a 1.3% performance difference. The two more cores don’t impact gaming performance by any significant amount. Therefore, for gaming strictly, we suggest buying the Ryzen 5 7600X3D and using the saved cost on other components like high-end GPUs. However, we can recommend the Ryzen 7 7800X3D only if you want both productivity and gaming performance.
