Players can purchase the Phantasmal Flames Build and Battle Box right now for prices ranging from $40 to $70. This is a pre-release item before the official Pokemon TCG expansion drops on November 14, 2025, with each box containing four Phantasmal Flames booster packs and one pre-built 40-card deck. So, if you are lucky enough to get a box on the cheaper side, it might be worth purchasing for the cards in it.

There are four of these 40-card decks that players can get their hands on, with the following cards being the focus of these decks:

  • Flygon
  • Ceruledge
  • Zacian
  • Toxtricity

You can participate in the pre-release format with these 40 card decks. The Pre-release format uses not only decks with 40 cards, but also only 4 Prize cards to balance it out. This will give newer players a chance to use decks without the pressures of deckbuilding, while pros will get to test out the new cards to get a feel for them. However, there is no way of knowing before purchasing which of these decks you will get. Additionally, once Phantasmal Flames is officially released, you will need to add more cards by pulling them from booster packs.

Still, some of the cards in this box, like Toxtricity, Wondrous Patch, Firebreather, Flygon, and Grimsley’s Move, have high meta potential. So if you are willing to take a chance, which is appropriate considering we are talking about Grimsley, you are likely to get useful cards for any decks you are looking to build.

Which of the Pre-Release Decks Are the Best?

These are the pros and cons of each of these pre-release decks:

DeckProsCons
FlygonGreat for milling strategies, access to useful Trainer cards like Fighting Gong, Lillie’s Determination, and Premium Power ProNot capable of dealing high damage
CeruledgeAccess to Firebreather and Energy Retrieval makes it easier to pull off Ceruledge’s Infernal SlashVery predictable and runs the risk of burning out if the Fire Energy cards are used up too quickly
ZacianZacian works well for the pre-release format as it deals 140 damage with Limit Break after your opponent takes a single PrizeZacian needs time to set up
ToxtricityToxtricity lets you attach extra Darkness Energy to your PokemonDoing so also deals damage to the Pokemon
