The Black Death event unfolds a mere decade after the starting date of Europa Universalis 5, throwing players into the deep end of crisis management early on when playing as a European nation. To survive Black Death, you can take one of several actions, ranging from segregating the infected to moving the court into hiding.

One of the most effective actions is Procure Remedies, which has a gold cost but improves Legitimacy and Stability. However, players have noticed that the gold siphoned by Procure Remedies remains as an expenditure long after the Black Death event has ended, straining the budget over time.

How To Remove Procure Remedies Expenditure in Europa Universalis 5

After the Black Death event ends, most actions and their effects are removed. However, Procure Remedies can stay indefinitely in EU5, reducing your gold income. To make matters worse, the positive effects of Procure Remedies may fade, removing it as a modifier. This eliminates any option for you to cancel it manually, while the gold income penalty remains.

If you experience this effect, it is due to a bug that will likely be fixed in an upcoming patch. Until then, you can use the following console command to remove Procure Remedies and its expenditure in EU5:

effect = {remove_country_modifier = procure_remedies_cost}
