Pokemon VGC: 5 Non-Legendary Pokemon Still Likely To See Use in the Regulation F Format

Despite the return of Paradox and Legendary Pokemon, these mons still remain great picks for the Regulation F VGC format.

Regulation F will see the return of Legendary and Paradox Pokemon in VGC. However, despite those Pokemon being overwhelmingly powerful, there are some non-Legendary mons who will still see play. These Pokemon will provide support, chip damage, and can serve as attackers in a pinch as well. So, lets see which non-Legendary Pokemon are among the best for Regulation F.

Top Non-Legendary Pokemon For the Regulation F VGC Meta

These Pokemon will continue to see high use in Regulation F VGC:

5) Alolan Ninetales

Alolan Ninetales will remain popular for a solitary reason: its access to Aurora Veil. This move is basically Reflect and Light Screen rolled into a single move, providing immense defensive utility to Ninetales and its allies. Alolan Ninetales can also spam accuracy-bypassing Blizzards in the snow and has other useful support moves like Encore, Helping Hand, and Fake Tears. However, this Pokemon is relevant mainly because it’s the best user of Aurora Veil in Scarlet and Violet VGC.

4) Gholdengo

Unlike most Pokemon on this list, Gholdengo is here primarily as an attacker. Its Steel/Ghost-typing, combined with an amazing Ability in Good as Gold, covers it defensively. This lets it focus on attacking, as it is one of the few Pokemon in the current meta that can afford to run Nasty Plot as a boosting move. This lets it spam its signature move, Make It Rain, as well as Shadow Ball with little risk.

3) Amoonguss

Amoonguss has been a fantastic Pokemon since its introduction in Generation V. This is mostly because of its Ability Regenerator, which lets it recover health every time it switches out. Additionally, it has a pretty standard moveset which always has Spore to put opponents to sleep, Rage Powder to redirect moves, and Protect to, well, protect itself. As for the last move, it can either be Pollen Puff, which can damage opponents and heal allies, or Sludge Bomb for powerful Poison STAB.

2) Incineroar

Incineroar being here should not come as a surprise. It has decent all-around stats, and its Ability Intimidate lowers both opponents’ Attack. Incineroar has Fake Out for priority flinching, U-Turn and Parting Shot to pivot out, Will-O-Wisp for burns, and Knock Off to remove items. Its Flare Blitz also hits decently hard. Finally, Incineroar can hold a wide range of items. Sitrus Berry is great for longevity, while Safety Goggles are great for protection from powder moves and weather.

1) Rillaboom

Rillaboom may be even better than Incineroar when it comes to starter Pokemon doing well in VGC. Its main niche comes from its Ability Grassy Surge, which sets up Grassy Terrain on entry. This terrain heals every grounded Pokemon for a little HP at the end of each turn and lowers the power of Ground-type moves.

Rillaboom also has the move Grassy Glide, which becomes a priority move under Grassy Terrain. Besides that, Rillaboom also has Fake Out and U-Turn as well as Wood Hammer for an alternate STAB. Finally, Rillaboom prefers to hold the Assault Vest, which gives it a boost to its Special Defense at the cost of only being able to use damaging moves.
