In this article, we will look at previous Regulation F teams that have recorded success in the Pokemon VGC format.

The Regulation F format will be returning again from December 1, 2025. This format will allow Legendary and Paradox Pokemon to be used in VGC tournaments. So, in this article, we will take a look at champion teams from the last time the Regulation F meta was the standard and why they did so well.
5 Successful Regulation F Pokemon VGC Teams
These are five Pokemon teams that did really well the last time Regulation F was the standard:
- Wolfe Glick’s Orlando Regional Team
- Alex Underhill’s Portland Regional Team
- Wolfe Glick’s Charlotte Regional Team
- Toler Webb’s Knoxville Regional Team
- Nikhil Reddy’s Utrecht Special Event Team
1) Wolfe Glick’s Orlando Regional Team

| Pokemon | Ability | Tera Type | Held Item | Moves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Urshifu-Rapid Strike | Unseen Fist | Water | Choice Scarf | Surging Strikes, Close Combat, Aqua Jet, U-Turn |
| Incineroar | Intimidate | Grass | Safety Goggles | Fake Out, Parting Shot, Knock Off, Flare Blitz |
| Flutter Mane | Protosynthesis | Fairy | Booster Energy | Protect, Moonblast, Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam |
| Amoonguss | Regenerator | Water | Sitrus Berry | Protect, Sludge Bomb, Spore, Rage Powder |
| Landorus-Incarnate | Sheer Force | Steel | Life Orb | Sludge Bomb, Substitute, Earth Power, Protect |
| Tornadus-Incarnate | Prankster | Ghost | Focus Sash | Protect, Bleakwind Storm, Tailwind, Rain Dance |
Wolfe’s Orlando Regional team is great for people new to Regulation F, as it has several Legendary and Paradox Pokemon worth trying out. However, this team is also worth noting as Wolfe became a trendsetter for Amoonguss. Up until this tournament, Amoonguss used Spore, Protect, Rage Powder, and Pollen Puff. Wolfe swapped out Pollen Puff for Sludge Bomb, which ended up paying off as it was the last Pokemon on the field that won him the whole tournament.
2) Alex Underhill’s Portland Regional Team

| Pokemon | Ability | Tera Type | Held Item | Moves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dragonite | Inner Focus | Normal | Choice Band | Extreme Speed, Aerial Ace, Stomping Tantrum, Outrage |
| Flutter Mane | Protosynthesis | Fairy | Booster Energy | Protect, Moonblast, Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam |
| Raging Bolt | Protosynthesis | Water | Safety Goggles | Protect, Thunderclap, Draco Meteor, Thunderbolt |
| Entei | Inner Focus | Grass | Assault Vest | Sacred Fire, Extreme Speed, Stomping Tantrum, Snarl |
| Ogerpon Wellspring | Water Absorb | Water | Wellspring Mask | Spiky Shield, Follow Me, Horn Leech, Ivy Cudgel |
| Chien-Pao | Sword of Ruin | Ghost | Focus Sash | Protect, Sucker Punch, Ice Spinner, Sacred Sword |
Alex took a team full of Legendary and Paradox Pokemon that won the Portland Regional. The only Pokemon that was also legal in other regulations was his Dragonite, which used a standard Tera-Normal Choice Band “Extreme Killer” set. Entei and Ogerpon Wellspring formed a Fire-Water-Grass core, while Chien-Pao serves as a powerful physical attacker. Finally, Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt were the designated special attackers.
3) Wolfe Glick’s Charlotte Regional Team

| Pokemon | Ability | Tera Type | Held Item | Moves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rillaboom | Grassy Surge | Poison | Assault Vest | Wood Hammer, Grassy Glide, U-Turn, Fake Out |
| Incineroar | Intimidate | Ghost | Safety Goggles | Fake Out, Parting Shot, Knock Off, Flare Blitz |
| Urshifu-Rapid Strike | Unseen Fist | Water | Choice Scarf | Surging Strikes, Close Combat, Aqua Jet, U-Turn |
| Flutter Mane | Protosynthesis | Grass | Booster Energy | Protect, Moonblast, Shadow Ball, Calm Mind |
| Ogerpon Hearthflame | Mold Breaker | Fire | Hearthflame Mask | Spiky Shield, Swords Dance, Grassy Glide, Ivy Cudgel |
| Farigiraf | Armor Tail | Fairy | Throat Spray | Protect, Psychic, Hyper Voice, Trick Room |
Another of Wolfe’s teams makes this list. This team uses a nice mix of Pokemon available for other regulations (Rillaboom, Incineroar, and Farigiraf) and Legendary and Paradox Pokemon (Urshifu-Rapid Strike, Flutter Mane, and Ogerpon Hearthflame). This team has a lot of great options for different scenarios. For instance, Farigiraf can be used against other Trick Room teams to undo their Trick Room setup.
4) Toler Webb’s Knoxville Regional Team

| Pokemon | Ability | Tera Type | Held Item | Moves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tornadus-Incarnate | Prankster | Steel | Rocky Helmet | Protect, Bleakwind Storm, Tailwind, Rain Dance |
| Incineroar | Intimidate | Grass | Sitrus Berry | Fake Out, Parting Shot, Knock Off, Flare Blitz |
| Gholdengo | Good as Gold | Fairy | Throat Spray | Protect, Make It Rain, Shadow Ball, Nasty Plot |
| Raging Bolt | Protosynthesis | Fairy | Assault Vest | Thunderclap, Draco Meteor, Thunderbolt, Snarl |
| Ogerpon Wellspring | Water Absorb | Water | Wellspring Mask | Spiky Shield, Follow Me, Horn Leech, Ivy Cudgel |
| Urshifu-Single Strike | Unseen Fist | Dark | Focus Sash | Wicked Blow, Close Combat, Sucker Punch, Protect |
Toler Webb used a team with a wide variety of offensive options. Urshifu is the main physical attacker, while there are several options for special attackers like Tornadus-Incarnate, Gholdengo, and Raging Bolt. Incineroar provides Fake Out and Intimidate support, while Ogerpon provides redirection support with Follow Me.
5) Nikhil Reddy’s Utrecht Special Event Team

| Pokemon | Ability | Tera Type | Held Item | Moves |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Articuno | Snow Cloak | Ice | Choice Specs | Blizzard, Ice Beam, Freeze-Dry, Sheer Cold |
| Arcanine-Hisui | Intimidate | Ghost | Choice Band | Rock Slide, Head Smash, Extreme Speed, Flare Blitz |
| Ogerpon Wellspring | Water Absorb | Water | Wellspring Mask | Spiky Shield, Follow Me, Horn Leech, Ivy Cudgel |
| Raging Bolt | Protosynthesis | Fairy | Assault Vest | Thunderclap, Draco Meteor, Electroweb, Snarl |
| Ninetales-Alola | Snow Warning | Fire | Light Clay | Blizzard, Moonblast, Aurora Veil, Helping Hand |
| Landorus-Incarnate | Sheer Force | Steel | Life Orb | Sludge Bomb, Substitute, Earth Power, Protect |
Nikhil Reddy’s team is arguably the most famous out of all the Regulation F teams from the last time this meta was legal. He used an Ice-type duo of Alolan Ninetales and Articuno, the latter of whom noticeably had four Ice-type moves. While Blizzard, Ice Beam, and Freeze Dry were all standard picks, he went with Sheer Cold as his fourth move. Sheer Cold in a one-hit KO move that is almost never seen because of its low accuracy. The fact that he was able to win with this core suddenly led to a rise in snow teams in general, and Articuno in particular.
