Anno 117 Pax Romana is an incredibly well-optimized game that has very lenient system requirements. However, the game can get ridiculously demanding when you max out the settings on a fully developed town. The benchmark scene easily destroys the RTX 5090 at 4K max settings. Yes, those are pretty unrealistic, but many gamers build towns even larger than what’s shown in the benchmark. All things considered, at 1440p the game looks gorgeous and remains fully GPU-bound.

The game offers a variety of presets within the settings page, but they do not do justice. With tuning, you can enjoy both incredible visuals and an enjoyable gaming experience. Below are the settings.

Note: The recommended GPU for playing this game at 1440p starts with an RTX 3060 Ti or higher on Nvidia, an RX 6700 XT on AMD, or an Arc A770 or higher on Intel.

With GPUs such as the RTX 3060 Ti or higher, you can use these settings and enjoy. If you have a higher-tier GPU, use these settings and increase RT from Medium to High. However, there will be noticeable shimmering in the image, so you have to rely on DLAA to clean it up. If you do not want to use DLAA, MSAA at 4x is also a great fit at 1440p.

On AMD GPUs, we are fully turning off any sort of upscaling because FSR ruins image quality and XeSS tanks performance. To ensure the image remains sharp, we are enabling MSAA with 4x. As for the RT options, we have opted for Low, but you can push for Medium as well. Turning off RT doesn’t really make much difference in FPS, so we have kept it on.

On Intel GPUs, XeSS works best because the XMX accelerators do a much better job of reducing shimmering. That said, the RT option is set to Medium, but if performance drops, turn it down to Low.
