Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is arguably the most graphically impressive anime-inspired AAA title out there. The primary reason for the game’s impeccable visuals can be attributed to the iconic art style courtesy of Akira Toriyama. However, part of the reason why the game looks as impressive as it does is due to the use of Unreal Engine 5.

Unlike the last few titles in the Budokai Tenkaichi series, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is coming exclusively to the current-generation systems, i.e., PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. As such, the developers at Bandai Namco were able to make use of a modern engine like the UE5 to its fullest. However, as is the case with most games that make use of Unreal Engine 5, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is quite demanding on PC.

Thankfully, the game does offer a rather robust graphics settings menu. While the options available aren’t nearly as extensive as something like the Silent Hill 2 Remake or Black Myth Wukong (both of which are Unreal Engine 5 titles), it does offer enough options to tweak for best performance. That said, here’s a comprehensive PC optimization guide for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, including the best settings to use for 1080p or 1440p-60fps.

Note: Many aspects of this article are subjective and solely reflect the writer’s opinions. These settings are meant for PCs that meet the minimum (or recommended) specs recommended by the publisher.

Best Settings for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero on PC

Despite its use of Unreal Engine 5, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero isn’t nearly as demanding as titles like Black Myth Wukong, Hellblade 2 Senua’s Saga, or even the recently released Silent Hill 2 Remake. However, it is quite heavy on the GPU front.

Furthermore, the game currently doesn’t have a shader compilation pass, which results in stutters whenever you boot the game up for the first time. On top of this, there are micro-stutters throughout the game whenever new particle effects or post-processing effects show up on the screen.

Additionally, the game does require plenty of VRAM. While the recommended GPU for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, according to Bandai Namco, is an RTX 2060 equivalent (6GB VRAM), the game often exceeds the 7GB VRAM mark at 1440p Max settings.

However, if you plan to play the game at 1080p, or 1440p with dynamic resolution scaling enabled, you can circumvent the VRAM issue. Do note that if you’re on an 8GB or higher VRAM GPU, you can technically play the game at 1440p Max settings, without much hassle. You will still have to contend with the shader compilation stutters, but your average frame rate will hover around 60fps. Much like other Unreal Engine 5 titles, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero isn’t particularly heavy on the CPU. As long as you have a modern 6-core (hyperthreaded) CPU, you should be fine.

Optimized Settings for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

  • Resolution Scale: 100
  • V-sync: On
  • Anti-aliasing Quality: High
  • Shadow Quality: Medium
  • Texture Quality: High
  • Post-processing Quality: Medium
  • Effect Quality: Medium
  • Depth of Field: High
  • LOD Quality: High
  • Grass Quality: High
  • Motion Blur Quality: Off
  • Camera Shake: Off
  • Destruction Effect Quality: High

Regardless of which settings you use, there will be shader compilation stutters when you boot the game up for the very first time. However, once all the shaders have compiled, you won’t face any shader-related stutters, until you update the game or your GPU’s drivers. If you have a Freesync or G-sync enabled monitor, refrain from using the in-game V-sync as it might introduce additional frame-time stutters.
