The One Punch Man webcomic series and its anime and manga adaptations are quite popular today. It is one of the most entertaining modern manga titles to read due to Murata’s incredible artwork and ONE’s storytelling ability. The world-building in this series is top-notch. Part of the reason for this series’ success are the well-crafted characters that have been created by the original author.

One character in particular is quite popular among webcomic readers, known as Genos, the Demon Cyborg. A self-proclaimed disciple of Saitama, Genos is the only one who has come close to understanding the Caped Baldy’s true potential. This character is a cyborg, and his design raises some questions about his past.

Why is Genos a cyborg? This is because his city was rampaged, killing all of the residents. However, Dr. Kuseno saved Genos and replaced most of his body with cybernetics. As a result, he became a cyborg, and his destructive abilities placed him as one of the best-ranked S-class heroes in the series. Genos’ main goal is to find the identity of the cyborg that not only killed his parents but also his entire village.

Genos’ Origins in One Punch Man

Genos was a young boy who was about 15 years old. He lived a relatively carefree and happy life in a quaint village. However, everything changed on one fateful night. Before he could realize what happened, he lost his parents to a cyborg attack.

The cyborg in question was in a frenzied state, destroying anything and everything that was in its path. Genos experienced the loss of his parents at a very young age. He too, was severely hurt and barely survived. However, his persistence paid off.

One person was about to change the course of his life—Dr. Kuseno. This man considers himself a scientist of justice, and his actions proved just that. He saved Genos’s life and obliged to fulfill his only request—to become a cyborg.

Dr. Kuseno spent many hours on Genos and gave him some of the best weapons systems that cyborgs could have at that time. This is why Genos has a great deal of respect for Dr. Kuseno. This scientist also plays a key role in Genos’ recovery. Since he is a cyborg, he doesn’t have the regenerative powers that pure human beings have. The Demon Cyborg gets his body repaired with Dr. Kuseno’s help. He eventually applied for the license and became an S-Class hero. Since then, the cyborg has been traveling and investigating to know the true identity of his parents’ killer.

Genos started his career by being an S-Class hero who ranked 17th on the tier list. Since then, the Hero Association has promoted him to rank no.11, which is his current status in the webcomic series. Genos is a cyborg who has an array of weapons with massive destructive abilities. His physical abilities allow him to teleport and sneak up on Speed-o’-Sound Sonic, which is an impressive feat. His kicks have destroyed the ground below due to the force he can generate.

Genos has a set of Incineration Cannons which produces immense heat that can melt objects. Dr. Kuseno’s updates constantly improve his firepower, gradually making him stronger. He also has an Arms Mode, a briefcase that turns into a prosthetic gauntlet. It increases the shape and size of the Incineration Cannons, making them even more effective. Genos also has the ability to sync with Drive Knight, using the latter’s Tactical Combination technique. This results in a massive humanoid robot with multiple thrusters and an array of the most powerful weapons systems that two cyborgs can have.

Who Killed Genos’ Family in One Punch Man?

The exact identity of the cyborg that killed Genos’ parents hasn’t been revealed. Genos plans to avenge his parents and everyone who died that fateful night. He is a dispenser of justice and will not rest until the identity of the cyborg is found.

However, signs point to a possible connection with Metal Knight, also known as Dr. Bofoi. He is a mysterious scientist who creates and controls robots that can deal a ton of damage. The Hero Association also relies on his technology for the city’s defenses and infrastructure. Therefore, the organization poses little to no restrictions on him, which is a massive problem.

Despite being a scientist, he lacks the ability to understand ethics. The webcomic features a conversation involving Drive Knight and Genos. It highlighted that Dr. Bofoi is incapable of assessing ethics, and his only understanding of this concept is through numbers.

The webcomic revealed that Dr. Bofoi could have a connection with the Mad Cyborg, that killed his family and the village. This is why Genos has always maintained his distance from Metal Knight in the One Punch Man series.

How is Genos Connected to Drive Knight?

Drive Knight’s first interaction with Genos was awkward since he left a cryptic message. He told Genos that Metal Knight was his enemy. The Cyborg’s intention was for Genos to maintain his distance so that his tech wouldn’t get stolen by Metal Knight. Drive Knight later revealed that a similar cyborg had gone berserk and killed his parents and the rest of his village. He also speculated on the possibility of Dr. Bofoi creating these cyborgs in an attempt to raise an army when the Hero Association is at its weakest. His nefarious tendencies indicate that the cyborg that attacked Drive Knight and Genos’ family was initiated by Dr. Bofoi. These two become cyborgs and now have a common enemy – Metal Knight.

Conclusion

Genos is a cyborg because he was saved by Dr. Kuseno after a massive attack. A frenzied cyborg caused this attack, killing both his parents and the rest of the village. With each mission, he is getting closer to finding the truth about the perpetrator’s identity. That being said, signs point towards Metal Knight’s involvement in this incident.
