FPS fans are in for a treat with some unique games coming out in 2025. So, we’ve compiled a list of the best ones here.
Some of the most popular video games today are first-person shooters because of how accessible they are. RPGs may require you to invest a lot of time, while strategy games require a lot of brainpower. Sometimes, you just want to sit back and shoot enemies without worrying about all the extra stuff.
In light of that, we’ve prepared a list of some of the best FPS games that are set to arrive in 2025. This ranges from unique narrative adventures like Industria 2 to classic horde shooters like Killing Floor 3.
Best Upcoming FPS Games in 2025
1. DOOM: The Dark Ages
As the name implies, DOOM: The Dark Ages is going to take you on a journey through the Dark Ages. The game aims to explore the origin story of the Doom Slayer and acts as a prequel to DOOM (2016). To go along with the new theme, there are some new mechanics. For instance, the game will feature dual-wielding and mounted combat, and of course, there are going to be more medieval-themed weapons.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025, although an exact date hasn’t been revealed.
2. Atomfall
Atomfall is a survival-oriented FPS game set in Northern England following a series of nuclear disasters in the 1960s. The alternate history and nuclear-themed setting might remind you of Fallout, and that’s for good reason. The game is directly inspired by Fallout: New Vegas, but there are some key differences. Atomfall is being labeled as a survival game, where you’ll have to manage your health and heart rate.
Emergent gameplay, dialogue-based interactions, and a series of small, explorable regions are some of the game’s other features. Atomfall is coming out on 27 March 2025 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
3. FragPunk
FragPunk is an upcoming 5v5 hero shooter from Bad Hero Studio, a subsidiary of NetEase Games’ ThunderFire Studios. Following the terrible release of Overwatch 2 and the shutting down of Concord, the hero shooter genre seems to be difficult to get into. FragPunk is looking to be a unique experience with the addition of powerup cards.
Apart from the usual hero shooter mechanics, the game has 100 Shard Cards that you can use to increase your jump height, reverse attacker and defender roles, use incendiary bullets, revive your team, and more. The game is fast-paced, with each round lasting around two and a half minutes. While there’s no confirmed release date, FragPunk is expected to arrive in 2025.
4. Pathologic 3
Pathologic is a narrative-driven survival FPS game set in a surreal plague-ridden town. The whole point of the game is to explore the story of the town and its various characters, and the games offer you multiple playthroughs through three different protagonists — The Bachelor, Haruspex, and The Changeling. Each playthrough will be different, but chronologically, you’re reliving the same events in the course of 12 days.
Now, Pathologic 2 was a remake, and the devs intended to include all three perspectives, like the first title. However, you can only play as Haruspex. So, Pathologic 3 introduces The Bachelor as the playable protagonist. This time, the game will incorporate a time-travel mechanic. It allows you to go back and see how your choices affect the lives of the townspeople. Pathologic 3 will launch on Steam in 2025.
5. INDUSTRIA 2
Industria is a short FPS set in two distinct worlds — Cold War era East Berlin and a steampunk Scandinavia in a parallel universe. Much like the Pathologic series, Industria is another narrative-driven FPS title. However, you won’t get multiple perspectives here.
Industria 2 follows the story of its predecessor, and you’ll have to survive against hostile robots in the parallel universe while trying to get back to your home world. Industria 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but we expect it to release in 2025 for Windows PCs.
6. Killing Floor 3
If you want to shut off your brain and just kill some zombies, there’s no better game series than Killing Floor. Now, Tripwire is back for another instalment, and this time, there’s plenty of improvements. The upcoming horde shooter has around 182 weapon mods that take gun customization to a whole new level.
The gore system has also been revamped in Killing Floor 3, to the point where it feels dynamic. If you want to play this co-op zombie shooter, you’ll have to wait till 2025, when it comes out for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Honorary Mention
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire
The simplest way to explain MOUSE is that it’s a fast-paced FPS set in a world that looks like it’s inhabited by Mickey Mouse. The graphics and the game world are heavily influenced by 1930s cartoons, so the game is entirely black-and-white. The best thing about this type of graphics is that they age quite well. If you loved the Bendy series, you’ll most likely want to play MOUSE.
In this game, you play as Jack Pepper, a war veteran turned detective with a massive arsenal of weapons at your disposal. The game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2025.
