Kick streamer Destiny married Swedish streamer Melina Goransson in December 2021. The pair separated in December 2023.
Kick streamer Steven “Destiny” and Swedish streamer Melina Goransson were among the talked-about couples in the streaming industry. The two got married in December 2021. This was Steven’s second marriage, and he was 32 years old at the time of his marriage to Melina. The latter was 23 years old. While the exact time when they met is not entirely clear, internet reports suggest that Melina first saw Destiny on the Drunken Peasants Podcast, after which she approached him online. Likely, they grew closer from this point.
The most striking aspect of their relationship was their open relationship or open marriage. For those unaware, an open marriage is essentially when the partners mutually agree to seek other relationships, often s*xual, with other people. The two opened up about this during a Lex Fridman Podcast episode in November 2022. Melina said:
“The only relationships I’ve ever done have been open relationships since I was like, in high school because I didn’t really understand like why wouldn’t you be able to like, do other things with other people but then just like have your main partner.”
Explaining what an open relationship is, she said:
“Not a monogamous relationship. Like, you’re somehow allowed like, in different ways, you can see other people sexually.”
Destiny also chimed in, explaining:
“I think broadly speaking you’ve got polyamorous relationships and you’ve got open relationships where polyamorous is like, ‘Oh, I’ve got like three different girlfriends and we all hang out or sometimes. Even live together or three boyfriends, whatever.’ And then you’ve got open relationships, which is like, ‘Oh, you know, you can basically hook up with other people and then you’ve got like your main relationship’.”
Destiny and Melina’s Divorce Timeline Explained
Just two years after their marriage, Destiny revealed that they had actually filed for divorce. On December 8, 2023, the streamer went on his Discord to explain that Melina had become “obsessed” with another person. He wrote:
“The last two months (and two weeks) have been a mindf*ck for me, watching her become obsessed with a toxic/abusive guy. (When I visited Sweden last, he gave Mel (Melina) an ultimatum to divorce me and then threatened to kill himself if she didn’t do it among 20 other abusive/manipulative things he’s done) and endlessly make excuses for him, so I’m out. Anyway, have fun with moobies for three days, good luck, cya on the 9th or 10th.”
More developments took place in November 2024, when Melina finally spoke out about the divorce. She accused Destiny of having an affair with Canadian alt-right YouTuber, political activist, and commentator Lauren Southern. She said:
“Last year, he leaked a message of mine that I sent to someone I thought was my friend. And, in that message, I mentioned Lauren. You know, I mentioned her because there was a lot of stuff going on, obviously. Like, this is something we already know. I don’t really know why people are speculating. Like, I think people can just put the puzzle pieces together, like, really easily. If they just look at, ‘Okay, these things happened.’”
Melina also spoke about the situation on December 5, 2024, stating that the alleged affair took place in 2022. She mentioned:
“It was like 2022, it was probably like the worst months of my life because I got… I didn’t know about it. That’s the thing. Like, I could feel I could sense something, but I got told that I was crazy and that… what I felt was wrong.”
