For those unaware, cursed techniques are abilities fueled by cursed energy that are used by jujutsu sorcerers to fight and exorcise curses.
Audiences worldwide were first introduced to the concept of cursed techniques by none other than Satoru Gojo. As the series went on, fans saw the usage of several types of cursed techniques in battle, including innate techniques, barrier techniques, and New Shadow Style, with some standing out more than others due to their raw power, versatility, and potential to turn the tide in a fight. 8) Copy (Yuta Okkotsu)
Yuta Okkotsu’s “Copy” technique is his innate technique that allows him to replicate any cursed technique he witnesses. To be more precise, Copy allows Yuta to utilize another sorcerer’s innate technique after his shikigami, Rika, consumes a part of the original user’s body. After consumption, the copied cursed technique is stored within Rika and can only be utilized either when she is fully manifested or through Domain Expansion.
An important upside of Yuta’s Copy is the fact that it allows him to utilize multiple cursed techniques to their full extent without overloading his brain or suffering from the respective drawbacks of each technique. A prominent example of this would be Yuta copying and utilizing Toge Inumaki’s Cursed Speech technique without causing any significant damage to his vocal cords. This is because the shape of one’s body is dependent on the shape of their soul. Therefore, if the shape of the soul is distorted, the body follows suit. With this technique, Mahito is able to kill, deform, or even experiment on people with horrifying ease.
Idle Transfiguration not only allows Mahito to attack the soul directly but also to reform his own soul and heal any injuries sustained in battle. As a result, Mahito is invulnerable to attacks that do not directly target his soul, making him a force to be reckoned with. That said, its effectiveness is limited against those who understand the soul’s structure, as seen in his battles against Yuji Itadori.
6) Deadly Sentencing (Hiromi Higuruma)
Hiromi Higuruma uses his shikigami, Judgeman, against his opponents in his Domain Expansion, Deadly Sentencing. While this domain is non-lethal by nature, Higuruma’s trial-based cursed technique imbued into the domain allows him to prosecute his target, with his shikigami acting as the judge. This domain reflects a small courtroom, where Higuruma acts as the prosecutor, and his target acts as the defendant.
This domain also prohibits violence, making even a sorcerer as powerful as Sukuna powerless against its rules. Inside the domain, Higuruma tries his targets for the crimes committed by them. Once found guilty, Judgeman sentences the defendant based on the severity of the crimes. A common sentence given out by Judgeman is “Confiscation,” which temporarily strips the defendant of their innate technique.
The most severe sentence Judgeman can give is Confiscation accompanied by the Death Penalty. This sentence not only removes the guilty party’s cursed technique but also allows Higuruma to use the Executioner’s Sword to kill them. What makes this domain so powerful is the fact that Higuruma can use it to defeat enemies far more powerful than him, especially since the Executioner’s Sword can kill anyone with a single strike without exception.
5) Ten Shadows Technique (Megumi Fushiguro)
Megumi Fushiguro’s Ten Shadows Technique is an inherited technique that is typically passed down in the Zen’in clan. By using shadows as an intermediary, the user of this technique has the ability to summon ten different shikigami. However, apart from the Divine Dogs, the user would need to summon the other shikigami with an exorcism ritual. In this ritual, the user must defeat the shikigami to make them submit to their will.
Each shikigami has its own unique ability, allowing Megumi to adapt to various combat scenarios, whether through offense, defense, or strategy. The ultimate trump card of this technique is the ability to summon the Divine General Mahoraga, an unstoppable shikigami that can adapt to any attack. However, the only downside of this technique is the difficulty of taming Mahoraga, a feat that no member of the Zen’in clan has ever been able to accomplish.
4) Star Rage (Yuki Tsukumo)
Yuki Tsukumo’s Star Rage technique allows her to add virtual mass to herself and her shikigami, Garuda. This technique has proven to be especially dangerous in combat, as seen in Yuki’s fight against Kenjaku. This is because, although the added mass is virtual, it boosts Yuki’s attacks with force equal to the mass assigned to them. Given that the added mass is virtual, it doesn’t weigh Yuki down or restrict her in any way.
Yuki mostly uses Star Rage to strengthen and improve her hand-to-hand abilities, making her a formidable fighter. However, what makes Star Rage one of the scariest cursed techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen is the fact that it allowed Yuki to turn her body into a miniature black hole, which had the potential to destroy the whole world.
3) Shrine (Ryomen Sukuna)
Shrine is Ryomen Sukuna’s innate technique, which allows him to unleash invisible slashing attacks to cut down his enemies. He launches these slashes either at range or through physical contact. Shrine also allows Sukuna to unleash a powerful hellfire arrow after performing both his Dismantle and Cleave attacks.
Dismantle is Sukuna’s default slashing attack, which he uses to cut down inanimate objects. By using Mahoraga as a model, Sukuna was able to enhance his Dismantle attack by broadening its target area to create the “Slash that Bisects the World,” an attack that resulted in the death of Satoru Gojo.
On the other hand, Cleave is Sukuna’s second slashing attack that adjusts its power depending on the target’s toughness and cursed energy level to cut them down in a single strike. With this technique, Takaba is capable of practically anything, including conjuring objects from nothing, healing himself without Reverse Cursed Technique, and simulating imaginary or outlandish scenarios into reality. This technique would have made Takaba an omnipotent being if only it wasn’t restricted by the fact that he must find something funny and have confidence in his capability as a comedian for the technique to work. Therefore, Takaba would theoretically be capable of wiping not only Sukuna but the entirety of the Jujutsu Kaisen universe out of existence if he found it to be funny.
1) Limitless (Satoru Gojo)
Satoru Gojo’s Limitless technique is the pinnacle of cursed energy manipulation. It is an inherited technique passed down in the Gojo clan, which brings the concept of “Infinity” into reality by allowing Gojo to manipulate and distort space at will. That said, it was only due to his possession of the Six Eyes that Gojo was able to master the power of Limitless.
The power of this technique can be divided into three forms or categories. The neutral or base state, known as Infinity, stops all attacks from reaching Gojo by slowing them down until they come to a stop. The second is the power to attract, known as Blue, whereas the third is the power to repel, known as Red, which is the Cursed Technique Reversal of Limitless. By combining the power of Blue and Red, Gojo creates an ultimate ability known as Hollow Purple, an imaginary mass that obliterates everything in its path.
