Learning how to deal with radiation is essential in Abiotic Factor, as it helps prevent harmful debuffs and increases your chances of survival.
Abiotic Factor drops players in the contaminated GATE underground research facility. Surviving in the research centre is no easy task, as you will encounter different creatures and anomalies. In a place like the GATE research facility, aliens and creatures are not the only threat. You should also be wary of environmental hazards, especially radiation. Radiation has spread into various locations and even contaminated food sources. Prolonged radiation exposure inflicts serious debuffs to your characters, drastically impacting your gameplay. Learning how to deal with radiation is a must if you want to survive the deadly hazard in Abiotic Factor.

How Radiation Works in Abiotic Factor?
Radiation exposure occurs while exploring certain regions and consuming irradiated food items. You can measure the radiation level with the Geiger Counter. If left untreated, Radiation inflcist debuffs through three different stages:
- Radiation Tingle: Occurs when the radiation absorption exceeds 6 rads.
- Radiation Sickness: Occurs when the radiation absorption exceeds 35 rads. Causes your character to vomit, which drains both hunger and thirst. The debuff is removed after two vomits.
- Irradiated: Occurs when the radiation absorption exceeds 50 rads. Causes your character to vomit, which drains both hunger and thirst. The debuff is removed after two vomits.
Radiation debuffs hinder your combat and survival capabilities, making managing radiation a top priority.
How To Remove and Reduce Radiation in Abiotic Factor
Although radiation remains a constant threat, there are several ways to counter it effectively. You can remove and reduce the radiation levels through the following methods:
- Wearing Rad Resistant armors like Lead Vest and Hazardous Materials Suit greatly reduces your incoming radiation absorption rate. You can acquire the Lead Vest in Bio Lab D and Silo 3 in the Office Sector, while the Hazardous Materials Suit is found in Silo 3 and Physics Lab D in the Office Sector.
- Iodine Tablets are your starter kit to counter radiation. Found commonly inside medkits, these tablets remove 10 radiation points while also granting 50% resistance to radiation temporarily.
- Pentetic Acid Syringe offers the same effect as Iodine Tablets, by removing 10 radiation points and granting Rad Resistance buff. You can craft Pentetic Acid Syringe using Hydrochloric Acid, Enethiol, Salt, and Metal Scrap once you reach level 4 First Aid skill.
- Green Fish Liver is another effective way to counter radiation, granting the same effects as Iodine Tablets. You can obtain Green Fish Liver by butchering the Radfish, found in Radioactive Waste spots.
- Additionally, you can cook Radfish Chowder and Rad Rice Bowl using Radfish Filets. In addition to restoring your hunger and thirst, these foods grant the Rad Resistance status effect. However, they do not remove radiation.
