GATE Security Crates offer valuable loot, but opening them in Abiotic Factor requires a specific late-game item.
During your early exploration of Abiotic Factor, you will frequently encounter elite loot containers, including GATE Security Crates. Although these security crates appear from the beginning, you can’t actually open them until you have made significant progress in the game. While it may be tempting to crack open those GATE Security Crates, you need a GATE Security Key to do so. Although the security officer Warren Bunning holds the key, you need to trade a specific item, which becomes available once you reach the Security Sector. Here is how to open GATE Security Crates and obtain the contents in Abiotic Factor.

How To Open GATE Security Crates in Abiotic Factor
As you explore the underground facility, you will find GATE Security Crates scattered across multiple areas, including Office Sector, Manufacturing West, Cascade Laboratories, Security Sector, Hydroplant, and Reactors. To acquire the key from Warren Bunning, you need an item called Nyxshade Seed. Once you craft a Nyxshade Seed, trade the item with Warren at the Office Sector Tram Plaza to obtain a GATE Security Key. The key allows you to open one GATE Security Crate, which contains the following rewards:
- Night Pass
- Light Gun Repair Kit
- Intermediate Gun Repair Kit
- Security Pistol
- Security Vest
- Security Helmet
- 9mm Ammo
- Light Gun Repair Kit
Crafting Nyxshade Seed
Since you cannot farm Nyxshade Seed, it can only be obtained through crafting. You can craft a Nyxshade Seed with the following materials:
- Night Essence (10): Obtained by exposing a Reaper to X-rays, slaying Inkfish, or exploring the Night Realm.
- Leyak Essence (5): Obtained by using an X-Ray Tower or X-Ray Lamp against Leyak enemies, or by defeating IS-0098.
- Anteverse Wheat Seed (1): Obtained by salvaging Anteverse Wheat.
- Enethiol (1): Found throughout the Office Sector and Flathill, or by breaking wooden crates and looting kitchen cabinets.
