In this guide, we’ll take a look at the Moving Box in Abiotic Factor, where you can find it, and how you can put it to use.

Abiotic Factor is an exciting new take on the co-op survival crafting genre. It blends resource gathering with interesting crafting mechanics and a science fiction setting. The game also features several other novel mechanics, which you’ll slowly come across while playing.
One of these is the Moving Box. It’s a box that has a mind of its own and moves around the Cascade Facility, picking up any dropped items. Initially, you might fail to see the point of the Moving Box in Abiotic Factor. However, our guide focuses on how you can put it to good use.
Moving Box in Abiotic Factor: What Is It?

The Moving Box is an entity that’s quite creepy to look at if it appears suddenly. It’s a storage cube that has two human feet and walks around the entire facility. You’ll be happy to know that the Moving Box does not attack you. Instead, its sole purpose is to go around every map looking for any items that you and other players have dropped. You can think of it as a mobile disposal system.
While you’re busy with your own pursuits, the Moving Box might come back to you with some discarded items. The items that it will bring to you are random, and you can’t predict them in any way. Since the Moving Box is constantly moving around, you’re bound to lose track of it at some point. Unfortunately, you can’t summon it to your side when that happens. There isn’t any way to call it to your location. Instead, you’ll once again run into it randomly.
You can still improve the chances of the entity appearing. For instance, dropping an item in a base where renovation is ongoing can substantially increase the likelihood of the Moving Box passing you by. However, there are some drawbacks to having the Moving Box around. It can sometimes collect empty cans, even though you need them and haven’t disposed of them per se.

How To Use the Moving Box in Abiotic Factor
After picking up one of your dropped items, the Moving Box will come toward you once. You can use this opportunity to interact with it and check its inventory, reclaiming any items that you might have dropped by mistake. Keep the following things in mind to make use of the Moving Box.
- If you’re dropping consumables or healing items, make sure to do it in a safe and open space. This will increase the chances that the Moving Box will pick those up and allow you to reclaim them later on.
- Don’t leave valuable build pieces unattended for long, as the Moving Box can mistake them for dropped items and collect them.
- If you walk near it while it’s holding onto a few items, you will trigger it to follow you around for a while. Use this tactic to manage space in your inventory without losing access to the discarded items forever.
