Working in tandem with the Speed attribute, the Athletics skill governs how quickly your character moves while running or swimming, as well as how much Fatigue is regenerated while in motion. The player regenerates 10 Fatigue per second while standing still, but only 2 Fatigue per second while running. However, as Athletics is leveled up, this regeneration rate increases until it reaches the full 10 Fatigue per second while running, which is unlocked at Master rank.

Running and swimming slowly build XP, allowing the skill to level up gradually over the course of your playthrough. To speed up the process, find Athletics trainers and use their services for instant level-ups. This is particularly helpful for characters that don’t have Athletics as a major skill, looking to improve upon their lumbering gait.

When you find an Athletics trainer, initiate conversation and select the “Train” option to open the training menu. You can train up to five times per character level, so it’s optimal to make regular visits as you level up. Listed below are all the Athletics trainers and their respective locations:

  Trainer NameLocationSkill Level
MaheiHis house in the southern district of LeyawiinBasic (0-40)
Uuras the ShepherdSouthwest end of SkingradBasic (0-40)
Hauls-Ropes-FasterThe Fo’c’sle in AnvilAdvanced (0-70)
HonditarHis house in southwest ChorrolAdvanced (0-70)
Rusia BradusAt Silgor Bradus’ house in AnvilMaster (71-100)

Training costs increase depending on your current skill level. The gold required is ten times your current skill level, meaning that raising your Athletics from level 45 to 46 will cost 450 gold. Since Anvil has both an advanced and a master trainer, it is the ideal destination to train in Athletics.

After reaching skill level 70 in Athletics, you will need to begin the ‘Athletics Training’ quest to train further with a master of athleticism. Speak to Hauls-Ropes-Faster or Honditar, and they will give their reference and point you toward Rusia Bradus in Anvil. The noblewoman is a bit of a recluse and only leaves her house between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to wander near the Anvil Docks Gate. This is a good time to speak with her and request training.

Before she is willing to teach you, Rusia Bradus requires you to discover 30 places that aren’t major towns. Speak with her again to complete the quest if you have already discovered the required number of locations. If not, you will find at least 20 locations in the periphery of Anvil that you can quickly discover on horseback. Once you do so and speak with Rusia Bradus, she will be willing to train you, and the quest will be completed.
