Activision is bringing four Black Ops 7 Zombies modes at release. These are: Standard, Survival, Cursed, and Directed. All these game modes differ from one another in several ways, offering fans unique experiences. Black Ops 6 Zombies fans should already be familiar with the Standard and Directed modes. Likewise, veteran fans of the series should also be well acquainted with the Survival mode. However, Cursed is a completely new experience, and it could just be the game-changer that Zombies fans have been longing for.

So, without any further ado, let us take a closer look at all the Black Ops 7 Zombies modes that will be in the game when it releases on November 14, 2025.

What Are All the Black Ops 7 Zombies Modes?

As just discussed, the following are all the Black Ops 7 Zombies modes coming at launch:

  • Standard
  • Survival
  • Cursed
  • Directed

Read on to learn more about each game and how they alter the gameplay mechanics in BO7.

Standard

This is the definitive Black Ops 7 Zombies experience. It will be a round-based mode with the entire Ashes of the Damned map available for exploration. In this mode, the Main Quest as well as the Easter Eggs will remain active. This means that players must not only survive waves of the undead but also progress the storyline to uncover the secrets of this mysterious realm.

Survival

Survival mode strips away the Main Quest and any side Easter Eggs. In this mode, players spawn in Vandorn Family Farm, a POI on the Ashes of the Damned map. This is a returning mode from Black Ops 2, and as the name would suggest, the goal here is simply survival. Players must face hordes of zombies that will come at them in waves, with each wave bringing more challenging enemies. There is no quest to complete or narrative to explore. The objective is to survive as many rounds as possible.

For fans wanting to experience the Survival mode, make sure to hop on the Black Ops 7 Open Beta, which is currently scheduled to go live on October 2, 2025.

Cursed

Cursed is a brand-new mode in Black Ops 7 Zombies. This is the ultimate mode for hardcore players. In this mode, the difficulty is turned up a notch, making it the most difficult Zombies experience to date. Needless to say, it is also rewarding. There are lots of side missions to take on in this mode, unveiling numerous secrets, including Relics. These Relics can be activated to face difficult challenges in exchange for rewards and new abilities. Now, you might be thinking, how exactly is it more difficult?

Well, it strips away the loadouts and mini-maps, giving users only a Pistol to begin with. Then, you are tasked with finding Relics, which, according to the devs, have “unforgiving” requirements. In fact, these Relics debuff the player (or curse them), making the overall experience even more challenging. Currently, we do not know much about this mode, and we expect the developers to release more intel at COD NEXT.

Directed

Finally, we have the Directed mode. This is the easiest of all four modes. Here, the difficulty is turned down, and players are guided through the Main Quest on any map. With this mode, the developers aim to make the mode accessible for newcomers who simply want to enjoy the story. That said, just like in Black Ops 6, the Directed mode won’t be available on day one. The developers will roll it out soon after the Standard mode goes live.

That covers all the Black Ops 7 Zombies modes that are confirmed for the final release. However, do note that more modes might be added to the game later in seasons.
