Diablo 4 recently received its first major expansion pack with Vessel of Hatred. The DLC has brought a long list of new content for players to explore in the Blizzard RPG. This includes a new difficulty system with different difficulty levels. All of these levels cater to different challenge preferences and playstyles.

The new difficulty system has 4 different standard difficulty levels that players can pick from. These difficulty levels not only make enemies more dangerous but also impact the rewards you get for taking them down. Given is a full breakdown of all of the difficulty levels in the game:

Normal

  • The easiest difficulty level, ideal for new players.
  • Unlock Requirement: Unlocked by default.

Hard

  • A heightened challenge for experienced Diablo players.
  • Rewards: Monster kills grant 75% more Experience and drop 75% more Gold.
  • Unlock Requirement: Unlocked by default.

Expert

  • For skilled Diablo 4 players who have acquired several Legendary items.
  • Rewards: Monster kills grant 125% more Experience and drop 125% more Gold.
  • Unlock Requirement: Unlocked by completing Diablo 4’s prologue.

Penitent

  • The most challenging standard difficulty; this is meant for players who have mastered Diablo IV and enhanced several Legendary items through Tempering.
  • Rewards: Monster kills grant 175% more Experience and drop 175% more Gold.
  • Unlock Requirement: Unlocked by completing the original campaign.

The Torment Difficulty Levels are endgame difficulties that require you to reach Level 60 and progress through The Pit. These difficulties offer significantly higher rewards but also affects your resistances and armor. This makes the game much harder than standard difficulties. Given is a full breakdown of all the Torment Difficulty Levels in the game:

Torment 1

  • Rewards: 300% more Gold and Experience from monster kills
  • Items: Ancestral quality items become available, increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique item drops per Torment tier
  • Penalties: -250 Armor and -25% All Resist
  • Unlock Requirement: Complete The Pit of the Artificer Tier 20 at Level 60

Torment 2

  • Rewards: 400% more Gold and Experience from monster kills
  • Items: Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique item drops per Torment tier
  • Penalties: -500 Armor and -50% All Resist
  • Unlock Requirement: Complete The Pit of the Artificer Tier 35 at Level 60

Torment 3

  • Rewards: 500% more Gold and Experience from monster kills
  • Items: Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique item drops per Torment tier
  • Penalties: -750 Armor and -75% All Resist
  • Unlock Requirement: Complete The Pit of the Artificer Tier 50 at Level 60

Torment 4

  • Rewards: 600% more Gold and Experience from monster kills
  • Items: Increased Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique item drops per Torment tier
  • Penalties: -1000 Armor and -100% All Resist
  • Unlock Requirement: Complete The Pit of the Artificer Tier 65 at Level 60
