Hollow Knight is one of the most celebrated Metroidvania titles of the past decade. The game takes you through dozens of intricately designed levels, pitting you against difficult enemies and even harder bosses. Exploration is key if you wish to grow stronger and meet the challenge, but more often than not, you’ll stumble across blocked pathways and locked doors.
While blocked paths and massive gaps can only be traversed by acquiring new abilities and returning, doors with simple locks require you to find the Simple Keys. Find a Simple Key and approach a door with one in hand to interact and get past the door. These keys are one of the most important items in the game and ones you absolutely need if you wish to see all that the game has to offer.
There are four Simple Keys in Hollow Knight scattered across the game’s various locations. These can be hard to find, and if you’re struggling to find them, we’re here to help. In this guide, we shall go over all the Simple Key locations in Hollow Knight.

Where To Find Simple Keys in Hollow Knight?
As stated earlier, there are four Simple Keys in Hollow Knight. You can find them in the various locations given below.
- Simple Key #1: You find the first key by talking to Sly, the Shopkeeper. Head over to his shop in Dirthmouth and purchase the key for 950 Geo.
- Simple Key #2: You find the second key in the City Storerooms in the City of Tears. Spawn in at the City Storerooms fast travel point and head left till you see a drop leading down below. Drop down and continue platforming to the upper right corner of the area to discover a hidden cavern. You will find the second Simple Key here.
- Simple Key #3: For the third Hidden Key, fast travel to the Hidden Station and beeline for the left. Keep going left till you stumble across a waypoint in the Ancient Basin. Ahead of you, you will see a massive pit of spikes. Use the Crystal Heart skill to get past and head deeper into the Ancient Basin. You will find the Simple Key on the body of a Royal Retainer.
- Simple Key #4: Head over to the Colosseum of Fools and continue on right till you see a path leading above. Head up and follow the road and break past the hidden door at the dead end. Continue on till you find the Pale Lurker, who has the key. Kill him to obtain the fourth key.
