Let’s take a look at all the Sniper Elite games released by Rebellion Developments in chronological order.
“Get in position, identify the target, and blast a bullet through its head” – this description sums up the Sniper Elite games developed by Rebellion Developments. These games are quite popular for their realistic atmosphere as the bullet trajectory is affected by the wind and distance. Moreover, every gun has different power and ammo, which makes each one of them act uniquely.
All of these games focus highly on stealth, as a sniper should be a silent assassin. Gather information, reach vantage points, destroy the surveillance equipment, complete the mission, and disappear into the shadows. There are a lot of main story games and some spin-off games available in the market.
In this article, we will go over every Sniper Elite game and discuss them along the way.
The Chronological Order of Sniper Elite Games
There are currently five main series games available to play. Sniper Elite: Resistance is the sixth installment and is set to release on January 30, 2025. Here’s the chronological arrangement of this franchise:

- Sniper Elite 5
- Sniper Elite: Resistance
- Sniper Elite 1
- Sniper Elite V2
1. Sniper Elite III (2014)
If we arrange the whole series chronologically, Sniper Elite III comes first on the list. The game is set in 1942 in North Africa, during the Battle of Gazala. Our protagonist, Karl Fairburne, a German-born American, is tasked with defending Tobruk but eventually loses. As the story continues, we go to Gaberoun, located in Libya, and other places after this mission. There are a total of eight missions and four DLC missions available in this tactical third-person shooter game. The main target is General Franz Vahlen, a German officer, and he is eliminated in the last mission of the game.
The game follows all the rules of physics, so make sure to align those shots accurately. Moreover, it has the X-Ray Kill Cam from Sniper Elite V2, which shows the impact of the bullet and looks very cool.
2. Sniper Elite 4 (2017)
The fourth installment in the Sniper Elite franchise comes second in terms of chronology. This game is the direct sequel to Sniper Elite III. Karl Fairburne is sent to Italy and is set in 1943, during World War II. Our main objective is to stop the Normandy landings by eliminating Heinz Böhm and destroying a new superweapon. Just like other Sniper Elite games, fire each bullet according to the wind and distance, and if shot perfectly, enjoy the X-Ray Kill Cam footage. Just like its predecessor, this game also has eight main missions and four DLC missions.
3. Sniper Elite 5 (2022)
The direct sequel of Sniper Elite 4 is set in 1944 in Italy. Our long-living hero, Karl Fairburne, returns with a nine-mission-long campaign. In this game, our primary objective is to uncover a super-secret Nazi operation named Kraken. While unfolding mysteries about Kraken, eliminate all the top leaders connected with the said project. The game has all the features from the previous games.
On top of that, it also brings new features like ziplining, knocking out soldiers, and sabotaging vehicles. There is a skill tree that gives different skills that can be useful while assassinating targets. Moreover, there is a new mode called Invasion mode, which allows players to invade other players’ campaigns as an ally or an enemy.
4. Sniper Elite: Resistance (2025)
The latest Sniper Elite game is set to release on January 30, 2025. This game is set in 1944, France, and runs parallel with its predecessor, Sniper Elite 5. This time we play as Harry Hawker, an ally of Karl Fairburne. The main objective of this game is to destroy a new Luftwaffe Wonder Weapon and help the French Resistance along the story. The game has all previously introduced features like the X-Ray Kill Cam, accurate bullet physics, and Invasion mode.
5. Sniper Elite (2005)
The first Sniper Elite game, also known as Sniper Elite: Berlin 1945, follows an operative disguised as a German sniper, Karl Fairburne. The protagonist is a German-born American fellow, which makes him a perfect candidate for espionage missions. Karl must stop the Soviet forces from collecting German nuclear technology. In the game, he is sent to different locations to eliminate Soviet Union officers. There are a lot of weapons to choose from, such as the Mosin Nagant, MP40, Walther P38, RDG-33, and many more.
6. Sniper Elite V2 (2012)
Set in 1945, this is the second installment of this epic franchise. Released in 2012 and remastered in 2019, Sniper Elite V2 is a reboot of the 1st Sniper Elite game. However, this game has a different ending, which makes it the first Sniper Elite non-canon. This game introduced the famous X-Ray Kill Cam to the franchise. The main objective is to eliminate all key German scientists who developed the V2 rockets. This is also the first game that introduced the multiplayer mode to the franchise.
Note: Apart from Sniper Elite (2005), every game supports multiplayer with different modes available in each game.
Sniper Elite Spin-off Games
Other than the main story of Karl Fairburne, there are some games with a different story. Sniper Elite: Zombie Army Trilogy and Zombie Army 4: Dead War are the two spin-offs of the Sniper Elite franchise.
Zombie Army Trilogy
The story of this spin-off is set in a parallel timeline during 1945, World War II. Hitler tries to resurrect dead soldiers according to his Plan Z. However, this backfires, and now half of Europe is filled with zombies. Even Hitler rises as a zombie by some mysterious means and now poses a threat to the whole world. The player, Karl Fairburne, tries to kill the undead Hitler in this trilogy. The first part came out in 2018, the second part in 2013, and the third, compiled with the previous ones, was released in 2015.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War
The direct sequel of the Zombie Army Trilogy. The premise is set one year after the death of Hitler. Even if he’s dead, the undead are still roaming the streets. Load the sniper as Karl Newborne and help the Resistance in the Dead War.
