Nubs Arena is a unique multiplayer arena fighter with some roguelike mechanics. You play in a four-player matchup with switching game modes. A robust weapon system also allows you to change your build in seconds during the matches. However, the game gives zero explanation about anything and throws you straight into the match, expecting you to learn everything as you play.

Most players are having difficulties with zero tutorials, especially about weapon types and how they work. To help you out, here’s a guide explaining all weapon types in Nubs Arena.

Weapon Types in Nubs Arena

In Nubs Arena, there are two primary and a few secondary methods of damaging someone. The first being normal weapons, and the second being items and skills. For primary weapons, you get a melee weapon and a ranged weapon. As for the secondary weapons, you can either get items such as mines or bombs, or skills that can deal damage to enemies on a dash.

Melee Weapons

Melee weapons in this game consist mainly of different types of swords, each of which has a unique move set. Moreover, melee weapons have the special ability of parrying. With the right timing, you parry another player’s melee or crossbow attacks. If you have damage reduction buffs, using melee can often win you matches with ease.

Ranged Weapon

Unlike melee weapons, ranged weapons have a much greater variety. There are three types of ranged weapons in Nubs Arena as of now. Here they are:

  • Crossbow: A Simple crossbow that shoots out gnomes, which act like normal projectiles. The variations of the crossbow are that it can either shoot multiple gnomes in a straight line or spread multiple out like a shotgun.
  • Sharp Objects: Sharp objects include shurikens or large bladed boomerangs. These weapons have the shortest range among all ranged weapons. However, the damage from the sharp objects is quite high.
  • Staffs: Staffs are the most unique ranged weapons as they add a completely new mana bar under your character’s health. Moreover, this weapon type uses mana to create magical projectiles. Currently, there are only two staff types in Nubs Arena:
    • Frost Staff: Shoots a single icicle projectile that damages and freezes enemies on contact.
    • Flame Staff: Shoot out three slow-moving draconic heads made of flame. These projectiles ignite the opponents on fire, which also damages them over time.

Secondary Weapon Types

The secondary weapon type that you are going to mainly use is bombs and mines, which you often receive after opening chests. You can throw bombs at enemies, and some bombs even have special properties such as freezing or creating a pool of acid. Moreover, you can pick up barrels and chuck those at enemies as well.

You can set mines on random parts of the map, and they detonate if an enemy walks over them. The mines in Nubs Arena can do massive amounts of damage and are often quite difficult to spot. We recommend using mines to rig major chests, which you often find in the middle of the arena. Finally, you might even get a buff that drops bombs when you dash, which is great for escaping fights.
