The 680M is the flagship RDNA 2 iGPU, and is integrated into Ryzen 6000 series APUs such as the Ryzen 9 6980HX and Ryzen 7 6800H. The Iris Xe G7 (96EU) is based on Intel’s Iris Pro graphics and is found in Tiger Lake U processors, such as the Core i7 1185G7 and Core i5 1135G7.

Spec-wise, these two architectures are very different. Based on theoretical data, it would be very unwise to compare the two. From the charts, it looks pretty neck-and-neck between the two, but strictly comparing them based on theory would paint an improper picture.

Synthetic Performance Comparison

From the synthetic benchmarks, we can see the magnitude of the difference. RDNA 2 is an excellent architecture, and the 680M showcases it. The aging G7 is also no slouch; it puts up remarkable scores despite being much older than the 680M.

Gaming Performance Comparison

These FPS numbers are sourced from publicly available information across the internet. Most of the settings were low and implemented upscaling, meaning. Games were running at 900p internally and then were outputting a 1080p image.

GameRadeon 680MIntel Iris Xe G7 (96 EU)

Shadow of the Tomb Raider25-45 FPS12-30 FPS
1080p High Average (typical)~25-30 FPS~12-15 FPS

From the gaming results, we can see that the 680M absolutely smokes the Iris Xe G7. The difference in FPS range. The difference is monumental, and in some cases, the 680M delivers 2x the frame rate of the Iris Xe.

Final Verdict on AMD Radeon 680M vs Intel Arc 140T

The 680M is the clear winner, and is the better buy overall. But that doesn’t end everything; there are quite a few essential things we want to discuss.

For starters, the Iris Xe G7 (96 EU) appears across multiple Intel mobile generations (Tiger Lake, Alder Lake, and even some Raptor Lake mobile SKUs), so you’ll still find it paired with a variety of Intel CPUs.

Suppose you’re specifically after Intel’s Arc iGPUs (Arc 140V / 140T). In this case, those are tied to Intel’s newer Core Ultra / Lunar and Arrow Lake families (Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9), so you have to pick the correct SKU; manufacturers don’t always make this obvious.

That said, the Radeon 680M is still powerful enough, and you will find Ryzen 7 6000H-series devices at affordable prices.
