The Raptor Lake Refresh powered by the 14400F features a hybrid core design, comprising 6-P cores and 12 threads, as well as four e-cores and four threads, for a total of 10 cores and 16 threads. The 5700X features a singular core design, available with 8 cores and 16 threads. Both CPUs lack integrated graphics, so you would need a discrete GPU to get a display.

Synthetic Performance Comparison

Due to newer architecture and other improvements, the Core i5 14400F with its hybrid design scores a win over the 5700X. But with just 8 P-cores and 16 threads, the 5700X is very close. As for rendering workload, yes, the 14400F will be slightly faster, but the 5700X will also provide decent performance and won’t significantly slow you down.

Depending on how the developers have optimized for each platform, there will be a significant performance difference. For instance, games optimized for Intel Dynamic Tuning will perform better on the 14400F. In contrast, games that prefer a single-core hierarchy will favor the more mature Zen 3 architecture, due to the more popular SMT (Hyper Threading) design approach. There isn’t a direct winner in this comparison.

Price Comparison

The Core i5 14400F currently retails at Amazon.com for $135, and the Ryzen 7 for $140. Pricing information is accurate as of August 3, and can change without notice.

Final Verdict: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X vs Intel Core I5 14400F

If you are going for pure multicore performance, like requiring the fastest render time, then the 14400F is the better option. But the 5700X is no slouch; its multicore performance won’t slow you down that much, as there are eight performance cores present. As for gaming, you won’t get astronomically high performance on either platform, like the X3D chips offer.

However, going with Intel is a more intelligent choice, as both platforms are decommissioned. Intel still offers the powerful 14900K, which you can upgrade to at any point if you experience a significant performance drop. On AMD, you are limited to the Ryzen 9 5950X, which is massively outperformed by the 14900K.
