Google has delivered a couple of Android 16 beta builds for testing, but they weren’t that interesting. Don’t get us wrong, there were quite a few new features, but they weren’t quite transformative. However, Google has revealed a new design language for Android 16 called Material 3 Expressive, which has become absolutely sensational. Users are thrilled about the new Android version and are patiently waiting for its release.

In this article, we will share the Android 16 release date and anything else you need to know.

While Android 16 had a good set of features during its beta period, the reveal of the Material 3 Expressive design seriously hyped the release. The new design language impressed a lot of people, including us, but we weren’t quite sure when it was going to be released. However, that changes now as we have some concrete information about Android 16’s release date, thanks to Allen Huang, who’s Google’s Director of Product Management for Pixel and Android system UI.

Google held a special show on YouTube called Android Show: I/O Edition, where the search giant revealed that Android 16 will either release by the end of May 2025 or by June 2025.

Will This Android 16 Release Have the New Material 3 Expressive Design?

According to Allen Huang, the initial Android 16 version, expected to release sometime in the next few weeks, won’t have the new Material 3 Expressive design that impressed many users. This is quite unfortunate, considering how excited people were about this design change. The last test build of Android 16 was Beta 4, which didn’t include the new design. Therefore, it makes sense that the upcoming Android version won’t have the new UI.

Allen also mentioned that the new UI will arrive sometime later this year, probably via a Pixel Drop update system. He also added that the Material 3 Expressive UI will arrive on Pixel devices first, which is certainly great news for Pixel users.
