The population in Anno 117 Pax Romana is an important aspect of the game because it directly contributes to the workforce of your island’s buildings. While it is not simple, growing the number of your people should be at the top of your priority list, whether you are in the early or late stages of your playthrough.

There are some specific ways to achieve this, and in this guide, we will go through all the methods you can use to grow your population in Anno 117 Pax Romana.

To grow your population in Anno 117 Pax Romana, you will need to build residential buildings such as houses. On top of that, you must ensure that you also produce goods that give you population buffs. Otherwise, your island will see a stagnant population, and your houses will be useless. You can simply click on any residence to see its food, public service, and fashion needs.

For example, if you want to fulfill the food needs, then you must produce food types that give you at least +1 population for each residence, such as Eels and Sardines. So, if you have a good Sardine business and 10 houses, you will get +10 population. Furthermore, you can also upgrade your residence population to higher tiers by fulfilling all of the needs mentioned earlier. Remember that a higher residence will give you a higher population with higher needs.

A Tier 1 residence, like the Liberti, gives you a maximum of +3 population per residence, while a Tier 2 residence, such as Plebeians, gives you +5 for just fulfilled food needs. In addition to that, you can also pick Ceres as your god in Anno 117 Pax Romana because she increases your population when you reach certain devotion milestones. Lastly, certain population buffs will have an area effect, which means they only influence buildings within a specific range. The market is a good example of this.

How To Grow the Workforce in Anno 117 Pax Romana

Workforce and population work separately in Anno 117 Pax Romana. You may notice that some buildings, during the early stages of the game, work even with zero population. That is because even though a large portion of your workforce comes from the population of your island, some structures, such as the trading post (+25 workforce, Tier 1), come with their own workforce. While this is a helpful feature in the game, you will not be able to rely on it forever.

Once you start branching out to different buildings, you will need more people to work in them. If you do not provide that, then you will notice a red hammer and pickaxe icon on your workstations that are suffering from a lack of workforce. In that case, some buildings will work but at a slower pace, which is not efficient at all.

To remedy such an issue, build structures that give you a population buff in exchange for a fulfilled need. A fishing hut is a great choice for a new town since it comes with +1 population and +1 income.

Furthermore, note that not all of your population will convert into the workforce. You get 50 percent workforce from a Tier 1 population, 30 percent from Tier 2, and 20 percent from Tier 3. For example, 40 Liberti will give you 20 workforce. In addition to that, research upgrades such as extra Horse Power and Albionic Loyalists also give you a workforce boost. Having a healthy and thriving workforce in the game is nothing short of an achievement.
