Equip Medium Shields in ARC Raiders by crafting Augments like Tactical MK1 or Combat MK1 via Lance at the Clinic.
Different types of Shields in ARC Raiders cannot be freely interchanged, and they are locked behind specific Augments which restrict them to their respective build loadout. The game features three types of shields for players to equip: Light, Medium, and Heavy. While all players can quickly equip Light Shields with their starter Augments, upgrading to Medium Shields can prove to be troublesome. To use a Medium Shield in ARC Raiders, you must equip either the Tactical MK1 or Combat MK1 Augment.
Purchase Combat MK1 from Lance (Clinic) and equip it to use Medium Shields. The Free Loadout and Looting Augments will only allow you to equip Light Shields, which are suited to looting and scouting builds because of their lack of movement speed penalties. However, equipping a Medium Shield will allow you to take increased punishment at a minor cost to mobility, while the Augment increases carrying capacity.
ARC Raiders: Shield and Augments Guide
To equip Medium and Heavy Shields in ARC Raiders, you must craft and equip improved Augments. Upgrading Augments improves loadout space and carry capacity while changing shield compatibility. To equip better shields, craft higher-tier Augments crafting materials and purchase them from Lance.
- Light Shields: Require Free Loadout and Looting Augments. Available to all players.
- Medium Shields: Require Combat MK1 or Tactical MK1 Augment. Obtain Free Loadout Augment by extracting with it or crafting it at the Equipment Bench. Then purchase Combat MK1 or Tactical MK1 Augment from Lance.
- Heavy Shields: Require Raider Augment III+. Upgrade the Equipment Bench to level 3 to create higher tier Augment and Heavy Shield crafting materials.

How To Get Augments
You can purchase Augments from Lance using resources crafted at the Equipment Bench. Head to the Clinic and speak with Lance to craft Combat MK1 or Tactical MK1 using one Free Loadout Augment resource. Equip the Combat MK1 or Tactical MK1 Augment at the Loadout Station to increase your carrying capacity and enable the use of Medium Shields.
To unlock higher tiers of Augments and Heavy Shields, upgrade the Equipment Bench to level 3. While Heavy Shields provide the best protection in the game, the tankiness comes at the cost of a significant movement penalty. Medium Shields present an ideal middle ground between the two extremes, balancing mobility and durability.
