Path of Exile 2, the much-awaited sequel to the ARPG Path of Exile, is scheduled for Early access on December 6, 2024. Developed by Grinding Gear Games, the free-to-play RPG features 12 distinct classes, each with a unique playstyle. Trying out the various classes and crafting a perfect build for your playstyle is a dope feature among RPG fans.

In recent years, many modern games have embraced inclusive character customization, allowing players to pick any gender regardless of class. Notably, this allowed players to picture themselves in the virtual world as a form of self-expression and form a deep connection with the character. Will Path of Exile 2 join this club, or will it retain the same approach as its predecessor?

Path of Exile 2 Features Gender-Locked Classes Like Its Prequel

Unfortunately, the classes in Path of Exile 2 are gender-locked, meaning you cannot choose the gender of a specific class as it is predetermined. For instance, The Warrior is male and The Witch is female, and these cannot be changed by the players. This approach matches the original Path of Exile, which also featured seven distinct classes with restricted gender-selecting options.

Although this gender-locking mechanism does not impact the gameplay, many players have criticized it for restricting the inclusive freedom of character creation and customization. However, you can customize your character’s appearance with various cosmetics, obtained through microtransactions, or in-game activities.
