Shonen anime is generally known for not showing too many character deaths despite the presence of high stakes. Jujutsu Kaisen set itself apart from this conception by killing off most of its cast through the intense events in the series.

Due to bold decisions and shocking twists, fans couldn’t help but feel compelled to watch the exciting story. Among the many deaths in the series, there were many that were awaited for a long time, but others that were heartbreaking.

Here are 4 Jujutsu Kaisen characters who deserved their ending and 4 who needed a happier one.

4 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Who Deserved What They Got

In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, where Curses feed off negative emotion, there is no shortage of evil characters committing atrocious acts. Due to this, the ending they got was one that was highly deserved.

1) Mahito

As the most widely disliked character in Jujutsu Kaisen, there were no redeeming factors about Mahito. Created by the hatred humans felt for each other, Mahito was curious about the true nature of humans. To this end, he chose Itadori as his test subject and put him through constant pain.

Due to his sadistic personality, Mahito killed several fan favorite characters and reshaped the souls of countless humans. His nonchalance while putting the protagonist through tortuous situations earned the hatred of most viewers. Therefore, fans were extremely excited when Itadori finally accepted his true self and confronted Mahito.

With a cold stare, he chased Mahito down in the Shibuya Arc, making the antagonist feel fear for the first time. After a brutal beatdown, Mahito was finally absorbed by Kenjaku. This was a much-needed feeling of satisfaction for fans sick of Mahito’s deeds.

2) Kenjaku

Along with Mahito, Kenjaku is another self-serving antagonist driven by his curiosity. Having been controlling the scenes from the background for centuries, he wished to merge Tengen with humanity and force the evolution of Curses.

To do this, he possessed central characters such as Itadori’s mother and Geto, which helped seal Gojo. As the creator of the Culling Games, Kenjaku orchestrated a large-scale murder event in the series too.

However, in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, he finally got what he deserved. After getting trapped in a comedy battle with Takaba, he failed to sense Yuta’s presence. This allowed the Sorcerer to sneak up on him and kill the antagonist. This made all of Kenjaku’s plans vanish as his own arrogance caused his downfall.

3) Toji Fushiguro

Toji is a man who has various infamous contributions to Jujutsu Kaisen, right from abandoning his son to killing the Star Plasma Vessel. He also came dangerously close to killing Gojo.

With the nickname of the Sorcerer Killer, he was disillusioned with Jujutsu Society and made his living as a mercenary who killed targets. To prevent Tengen from contacting his vessel, Toji came up with a ruthless plan involving the deaths of many characters. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get out of it unscathed as Gojo’s evolution took him down with Hollow Purple.

While Toji’s death was expected, he was a complex character. Due to the pressures of the Zenin Clan, he was nudged into his profession. Hence, he deserved his short return in the Shibuya Arc, where he interacted with Megumi before killing himself.

4) Haruta Shigemo

Haruto was a frustrating character in Jujutsu Kaisen who enjoyed trampling on those weaker than him. In the Shibuya Arc, he attacked Ijichi and also tortured Akari in front of Nobara.

While taunting the girls, he was interrupted by Nanami, who fiercely punched him out. This wasn’t Haruta’s end, however, as he proceeded to critically wound Megumi after sneaking up on him. As a consequence, Megumi ended up unleashing Maharoga.

Following the explosive battle between Sukuna and Maharoga, the former sliced Haruta in half as he tried to leave gleefully. Despite being killed by Sukuna, fans were glad to see the end of Haruta. While his ability allowed him to survive with little miracles, the King of Curses was too much for him to handle.

4 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Who Deserved Better

Jujutsu Kaisen was brutal with the conclusion of its evil characters, but it was equally unforgiving to fan favorites. Staying consistent with its dangerous world, the series has several characters who face tragedy while not doing anything to deserve it.

1) Choso

Choso was a death painting created out of the illegal experiments of Kenjaku. Having been born into a hard life, the one thing he treasured was his brothers. While he lost most of them, Choso considered Itadori to be his family member too due to their connection to Kenjaku.

Due to this, the duo finally fought together against Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. While dealing with Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine using their Anti-Domain Techniques, the antagonist unleashed a destructive Furnace Flames attack. To protect Itadori, Choso shielded him from it and disintegrated.

While Choso’s death for the sake of Itadori was bittersweet, the character had been dealt a bad hand. Not letting him come out alive and spend more time with his beloved brother was definitely something the caring Choso did not deserve.

2) Junpei Yoshino

Junpei was a normal boy who befriended Itadori but was facing his own demons after being bullied by his peers. Since Mahito wished to break the protagonist, he manipulated Junpei and pushed him to torture his classmates.

When Itadori intervened and made Junpei realize his fault, Mahito used Idle Transfiguration and turned him into a pitiful Curse. Left in an abominable state, Junpei ended up dying filled with regrets. This was the first time fans truly got to experience how sad Jujutsu Kaisen could truly be.

Junpei was nothing but a regular person forced into a terrible position because of his surroundings. Unfortunately, since the world he lived in was cruel, this was taken advantage of and caused his death.

3) Mechamaru

Kokichi Muta, more widely known by his puppet form – Mechamaru, was a Sorcerer born with a Heavenly Restriction that gave him constant pain. In exchange for Mahito giving him a new body, he agreed to be his informant inside Jujutsu High.

During the beginning of the Shibuya Incident, Mahito and Kenjaku met up with Mechamaru to fulfill their oath. Soon after being healed, he realized that he would have to fight the antagonists since they had hurt his friends. With Ultimate Mechamaru Mode, he used his vast resources of Cursed Energy to damage the Curse’s soul.

Nevertheless, Mahito continued his nefarious acts as he made Mechamaru think he defeated him before taking him by surprise. After breaking into the puppet, Mahito ended up killing the Sorcerer. This was particularly heartbreaking since Mechamaru had worked hard to gain a body and spend time with his friends. Miwa, a budding relationship of his, also gets devastated upon hearing about his death from a small Mechamaru machine she possessed.

4) Riko Amanai

Similar to Junpei, Riko was a girl whose life was tragically cut short because of her surroundings. Destined to be a Star Plasma Vessel, Riko had put on a brave face where she seemed ready to sacrifice herself for Tengen.

At the last moment, however, she revealed to Geto that she wished to live and broke down crying. Right as Geto extended his arm forward to help her escape, Toji shot and killed her. This made Geto lose hope in Jujutsu Society while Gojo himself contemplated killing all those responsible.

Riko Amanai’s death resulted from being forced into the role of a vessel. Just as she chose to finally live for herself and enjoy time with her friends, her life was cruelly taken away. This moment depicted how innocents got sorrowfully caught up in the struggles between those with power.

Conclusion

To conclude, Jujutsu Kaisen has a great balance between the inevitable deaths of characters and the heart-wrenchingly sudden deaths of those who didn’t deserve it. This highlights the series’ exploration of its harsh setting, which is equally merciless to both good and evil.
