Top 5 Games Like Dragon Age The Veilguard That You Must Play

Here are the 5 games you you need to play before Dragon Age The Veilguard:

  • Dragon Age: Inquisition
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Dragon’s Dogma

Furthermore, some of these recommended games are also part of larger series. If you have the time, check out some of the earlier games or the available sequels for these popular RPG franchises.

Finally, some other major RPGs of note that you might also consider include the Mass Effect series, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War 2018, and Elden Ring.

1) Dragon Age: Inquisition

What better game to play than the last entry in the series? Playing Dragon Age Inquisition will help you become familiar with the combat, exploration, and character creation mechanics of the franchise. The latest game will follow the story of Solas, who was an important character in Inquisition. We highly recommend playing the game so you can follow the narrative without a hitch.

Moreover, if you have a lot of extra time, then there is the entire Dragon Age series available. Dragon Age: Origins marks the beginning of the series, followed by Dragon Age II, and then Inquisition. Inquisition will lead more directly into The Veilguard, but all of the series so far have been impactful RPGs.

2) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The next game we highly recommend is The Witcher 3. If you love what the Dragon Age series offers in terms of storytelling and world-building, then The Witcher 3 should be right up your alley. The Witcher 3 throws you right in the middle of a world filled with conflict, and you get to pick where the story and the narrative lead you. While you don’t get to create a character, the narrative gives you something akin to a Dragon Age RPG experience.

3) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

If it is the atmosphere that pleases you when it comes to the Dragon Age series, then The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the game for you. Released over a decade ago in 2011, Skyrim excels at being highly immersive. It may not be as graphically advanced as the other games on this list, and shows its age considerably, but you should give it a try. The game offers extensive customization and creation options similar to Dragon Age. And, the game offers endless freedom for those who love exploration.

4) Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is another game we’d recommend as it shares a few similarities with the Dragon Age does. BG3 puts you in a party with companions and lets you roam the world as you please. Very few games can make your party feel like genuine companions the way Baldur’s Gate 3 does.

BG3 also lets the player direct the narrative as they please. There are hundreds of quests with several endings, all spawning from the choices you make. Baldur’s Gate 3 is the gold standard for an RPG in 2024.

5) Dragon’s Dogma

The last entry on this list, Dragon’s Dogma, is a game reputed for its deep combat system. If exploring a fantasy world and fighting monsters and dragons are what you like, then Dragon’s Dogma is the one for you. While its narrative may be a weak link, Dragon’s Dogma lets you live out the power fantasy of a monster hunter like no other.
