Explore the thrilling ending of Chainsaw Man Part 1, Denji’s growth, Makima’s fate, and how it connects to Part 2.
Created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw Man Part 1 is a wild ride filled with thrilling battles and shocking twists. The series follows Denji’s journey from an abused orphan to a Devil Hunter wielding the Chainsaw Devil’s powers. The emotionally charged ending of the first part perfectly sets up the second act. So, how did Chainsaw Man Part 1 end?
Chainsaw Man Part 1 ended with Denji defeating Makima, while the Control Devil was reborn as Nayuta. Let us explore this further.
How Chainsaw Man Part 1 Ends
Titled the Public Safety Saga, the first part of Chainsaw Man ended with the Control Devil Arc. This reveals that Makima was the Control Devil and orchestrated the death of Denji’s friends such as Power, Aki, and Reze.
By breaking his heart, Makima aimed to nullify Denji’s contract with Pochita and exploit the Chainsaw Devil’s powers. After a fierce battle between Makima and her controlled Devils against Chainsaw Man using Denji’s body, the protagonist faced near defeat.
However, due to some of Power’s blood being left over in his body, he was saved by the Blood Fiend and taken to safety. Kishibe then found Denji and took him to his hideout. Here, the latter expressed that he had a plan to defeat Makima and received Kishibe’s support.
The next day, Denji invited Makima to meet her at a secluded location. Joined by multiple Devil Hunters, Fiends, and other entities she controlled, Makima came in full force. Upon seeing Chainsaw Man, the two parties got into yet another close-combat battle, where Makima won and pulled Pochita out of Chainsaw Man’s heart.
In a shocking twist, however, Denji came out suddenly and slashed Makima with a Chainsaw he made out of Power’s blood. It turned out that the Chainsaw Man fighting Makima was a clone being controlled by Pochita. Hence, through this trick of misdirection, Denji emerged victorious.
To ensure Makima was not born again, he ended up chopping her up and eating her.
What Happens to Denji After Chainsaw Man Part 1?
Soon after Makima died, Kishibe called Denji and introduced him to a young girl named Nayuta. Denji discovered that Nayuta was the new Control Devil. To prevent another case like Makima’s, Kishibe wished for Denji to take care of her.
Remembering his promise to Pochita, Denji begins living an ordinary life with Nayuta, cherishing her daily. Hence, after Chainsaw Man Part 1, Denji lives a normal life as a high school student while taking care of Nayuta and all their dogs.
Burdened by the loss of valuable connections, his character takes time to heal while living a more grounded life as Nayuta’s caretaker. This shows the significant development he goes through while balancing personal desires with the weight of responsibility.
How Is Chainsaw Man Part 1 Connected To Part 2
Chainsaw Man Part 2 is a direct continuation of Part 1 and is titled The Academy Saga. The introductory arc of this part follows a young girl named Asa Mitaka. Being a clumsy and awkward person, her life completely changes when she becomes the host of the War Devil.
Sharing the same body, the War Devil reveals that she wants to get revenge against Chainsaw Man and turn him into her weapon. Since Denji was going to the same high school as Asa, they would track him down and trick him into lowering his guard. However, with the appearance of the Chainsaw Man Church and several other Devils, Part 2 is currently going full steam ahead.
The sudden introduction of the deuteragonist had several fans confused initially regarding the continuity of Part 2. However, rest assured that it is completely connected to Chainsaw Man Part 2 while adding to its rich lore.
Does Makima Return in Chainsaw Man Part 2?
Makima played a huge role in Denji’s life during Part 1, and hence, many expected her to return for the sequel, too. However, as of the most recent Chainsaw Man chapter, we can confirm that Makima has not returned to the series yet.
As mentioned earlier, Denji defeated Makima and ate her after their battle. While being eaten by Pochita would result in a Devil being erased, since Denji had eaten her, the Control Devil only ended up being reincarnated.
Her reincarnation, Nayuta, is a sweet girl who is very caring and possessive of Denji. She uses her control powers for his sake while protecting him against any potential enemies. Denji was also assigned as the guardian of Nayuta so he could prevent her from going down the same path as Makima and guide her the right way.
Hence, the positive relationship shared by these two is a refreshing change compared to the manipulative nature of Makima.
Conclusion
Chainsaw Man Part 1’s ending was a huge relief to fans sick of seeing Denji being used. Watching the protagonist cut the chains around him and kill the villain was an unparalleled feeling of joy.
Now that the barriers to his growth have vanished, Chainsaw Man Part 2 continues Denji’s life as he attempts to make the most of it. Expanding on earlier themes while also introducing new narratives, the world of Chainsaw Man only keeps getting more and more fascinating.
