Are you wondering where to read Haikyuu after the anime? Here’s a complete guide on Haikyuu Arcs, along with episode and chapter lists.
The latest anime adaptation of Haikyuu doesn’t leave much of the manga to be animated. The fourth season of Haikyuupremiered back in 2020 and received great responses from fans. However, Haikyuu season 4 only adapted half of the Tokyo Nationals arc. With the manga officially ending in July 2020, Haikyuu fans might want to jump straight to the panels and see the rest of the story unfold.
But, from which chapter should you start reading the manga? Or, maybe you just want to jump to a specific part of the story. With 402 chapters, jumping randomly into any point of the story would likely make you miss some context. Don’t worry, because here’s the arcs guide for all 6 Haikyuu arcs in order.
Arcs Guide With List of Arcs
Haikyuu is a story about rivalry, friendship, and sportsmanship wrapped up in a saga of the Karasuno team. The protagonists, Hinata and Kageyama, grew from enemies to close friends who pushed each other to their limits. Not only that, Haikyuu also shared a decent amount of screen time for the side characters to develop. Overall, their story became an overarching tale about their love for volleyball. Here’s the list for all Haikyuu arcs along with all the episodes and chapters.
Arcs | Anime Episodes | Chapters |
Karasuno High Team Formation Arc | Season 1, Episodes 1-14 | 1-35 |
Interhigh Arc | Season 1, Episodes 15-25 | 36-71 |
Tokyo Expedition Arc | Season 2, Episodes 1-11 | 72-96 |
Spring High Preliminary Arc | Season 2, Episodes 11-25, Season 3, 1-10 and two OVAs | 97-206 |
Tokyo Nationals Arc | Season 4, Episodes 1-25 | 207-369 |
Final Arc | Not animated yet | 370-402 |
As you can see, almost all of Haikyuu’s stories have been adapted into anime. Currently, the latest arc to be animated is the Tokyo Nationals arc. This is where the Karasuno team made their way to the nationals and faced Inarizaki High, a formidable opponent for Karasuno.
The story takes its time to set up the characters’ dynamic, even the side characters. So, this is just the anime for fans who love well-paced and slow-burn stories. But, similar to watching sports in real life, the matches in Haikyuu will also make fans root for the Karasuno team. It’s worth noting that there are movie installments for the series. However, all the movies are more or less recaps of all four anime seasons.
Should You Skip Any Haikyuu Arc
While skipping certain arcs is doable in some anime, this isn’t the case for Haikyuu. The story arcs in this series are long and elaborate. Moreover, each one of them has something that shows Karasuno’s team development and the depth of the characters. Also, the dynamic between the two main protagonists, Hinata and Kageyama, drastically changed at the end of the story compared to the beginning. Skipping any arc in Haikyuu is not a recommended move.
However, if you have watched the entire anime, from season one to season four, you can comfortably skip the movies. As mentioned before, the movies are largely recaps of the anime. Also, if you want to get straight to the story after the anime, you can safely jump to chapter 370 without worrying about missing some context.
Which Are the Longest and Shortest Haikyuu Arc
The longest arc in Haikyuu is the Tokyo Nationals arc. This arc is the build-up for the finale of Haikyuu, and it does have its own highlight moments with the Karasuno vs Inarazaki match. The back-and-forth match pushed Hinata and Kageyama to their limits, with the Miya twins of the Inarizaki team completely overwhelming them. However, the Karasuno team emerged victorious in this match.
The shortest arc is the Final arc, just a few chapters less than the first arc. This is where Hinata and Kageyama met after reaching a high point in their volleyball careers. Hinata decided to go to Brazil to learn about beach volleyball. Meanwhile, Kageyama made his way into the 2016 Olympics and represented Japan. Not long after that, they’re immediately scouted by Division 1 V-League teams. Scheiden Adlers signed Kageyama, and Hinata got his hands on MSBY Black Jackals.
Which Haikyuu Arcs Are Left To Be Animated
The anime adaptations are almost caught up with the manga. There is not much of the story that hasn’t been animated, with the Final arc being the only arc left. This arc is a perfect ending for the series, Hinata and Kageyama reached a high point in their volleyball careers, with them joining top teams in the V-league. Moreover, they later got to play for international teams as professional players.
However, this arc is also the shortest arc in Haikyuu’s story. Apparently, it didn’t warrant Production I.G. to give the finale an animated adaptation. Instead, Haikyuu got another movie, Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle, which specifically focuses on chapters 293 to 324.
Conclusion
Almost the entirety of Haikyuu manga has been adapted into anime and movies, with the only arc left as still panels being the Final arc. However, the arc itself is the shortest among all of Haikyuu’s story arcs, even shorter than the first arc. If it ever gets an anime adaptation, it would make sense to imagine that this arc would get a 14-episode anime season, just like the Karasuno High Team Formation Arc.
However, there’s no certainty from Production I.G. about a fifth season for Haikyuu to wrap up the anime. The manga itself ended back in July 2020. So, if you are one of the Haikyuu fans who would like to know where the story goes after the anime, make sure to check out the arc guide to give you an idea of where to start reading the manga.
