It should be noted that there are several important characters in each part of the series who typically join our main protagonist on their journey. While these are deeply influential characters in their own right, we will mainly be following descendants of JoJo in this list.

1) Jonathan Joestar – Phantom Blood

As the very first JoJo in the series, Jonathan is a noble and kind-hearted hero who embodies the “perfect gentleman.” He has a strong moral compass and is willing to sacrifice himself to get rid of evil, which in this case is his adopted brother – Dio Brando.

While Jonathan had a sheltered upbringing, he was soon to mature after his brother tormented him. To defeat Dio’s supernatural powers, Jonathan learned to use Hamon – Innate energy that is effective against vampires.

2) Joseph Joestar – Battle Tendency

As the main protagonist of the second part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Joseph Joestar is significantly different from his predecessor. He is a quick-witted and resourceful individual who uses smart strategies to get out of situations.

Joseph can be classified as a trickster who defeats opponents with his cunning. However, when faced with the Ancient Pillar Men, he had to become more serious and learn to apply his Hamon properly. Additionally, his signature trait is to predict what the opponent would say before they said it. This makes him a fan favourite who is also the longest-surviving Joestar in the series.

Resultantly, Joseph is the only character in the series who has both Hamon and his Stand – Hermit Purple, which casts out thorny vines.

3) Jotaro Kujo – Stardust Crusaders

Jotaro is the grandson of Joseph and the most recurring character in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. He is considered by many fans to be the coolest protagonist as well, due to his stoic and collected personality, which never trembles in front of the enemy.

Initially, Jotaro is introduced as a rude delinquent. We soon find that his real personality is the opposite. Being a compassionate individual, he cares deeply about his loved ones. Jotaro set off on the journey of a lifetime, going past several regions to track down his family’s old nemesis, Dio.

To save his dying mother by killing the villain, he also learned the time-stop Stand, Star Platinum.

4) Josuke Higashikata – Diamond is Unbreakable

Josuke is the most regular JoJo since he is friendly, caring, and grounded. While he is not generally violent, Josuke can lose his temper if anyone ever makes fun of his hair.

Additionally, he is a normal teenager who gets nervous and cannot harm others easily. He is openly expressive and conveys a wide range of feelings, from goofiness to anger. His “normalcy” is why he couldn’t kill Kira despite having multiple chances to do so.

Nevertheless, his Crazy Diamond Stand allowed him to regress objects to a previous state. This helped him take down the antagonist to protect those he loved.

5) Giorno Giovanna – Golden Wind

Giorno has one of the most distinctive appearances among all the JoJos and is the strongest among them. He is the son of Dio, who also carries the blood of Jonathan Joestar, as he was conceived using his stolen body.

As a member of the mafia, he wishes to climb to its top and change the way it operates. Giorno had a childhood filled with trauma, and this made him very calculating in battle. While he learns to care about those around him, Giorno is still willing to risk everything to create a more advantageous situation.

Giorno’s initial Stand was the Gold Experience, which could create and manipulate life. This soon became the Gold Experience Requiem, which could alter reality and nullify any harm. This helped him in defeating his enemy, Diavolo.

6) Jolyne Cujoh – Stone Ocean

Jolyne is the first and only female main character of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure till now. She is the daughter of Jotaro and is sent to prison after getting framed.

After she runs into a loyal follower of Dio here and discovers her father’s life to be in danger, Jolyne’s true instinct kicks in. This reveals that Jolyne is a very determined individual with a strong sense of justice. Using her Stand – Stone Free, she can use her body parts as strings and ingeniously win battles. For the sake of protecting what is dear to her, Jolyne is also willing to give up her own life.

7) Johnny Joestar – Steel Ball Run

Johnny is the main character of the highest-rated Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part – Steel Ball Run. He is completely different from the other JoJo protagonists, as he is introduced as a depressive man with very low confidence in himself.

After discovering the miraculous Corpse Parts, he is filled with renewed purpose and takes part in a cross-country race with Gyro Zeppeli. Johnny is a man who has a darkness not found in the previous protagonists, as he is capable of murdering others for his goal. However, through his journey, he is able to make many meaningful bonds that eventually turn him into a heroic figure.

Johnny’s Stand, Tusk, uses his ability to spin and fire powerful nails. It is unique since it has multiple evolutions that differ in range and power.

8) Josuke Higashikata – JoJolion

Josuke, known as Gappy because of the gap in his teeth, is the eighth protagonist of the series. He was introduced without any memories and spends most of his time finding those who knew of his previous self.

He is generally polite but is very emotionally driven to find the mystery behind his condition. At the same time, he values the connections he makes with his current memories. Due to this, Josuke is willing to let go of his restraint and even kill those who threaten his loved ones.

Josuke’s Stand is Soft & Wet, allowing him to steal elements and properties from targets. Since he is a methodical fighter, this ability is also put to good use.

9) Jodio Joestar – JoJoLands

Jodio is the protagonist of the newest generation of JoJo. While not much is known about him yet, his main motivation in the series is money. He shows very little interest in relationships that do not involve money.

This doesn’t apply to his family, of course, as he can become very agitated should they be threatened. Nevertheless, Jodio seems to be the least ethical JoJo, while the author doesn’t particularly try to make him seem heroic. His Stand is November Rain, which causes showers that can heavily crush targets.

Most Liked and Least Liked JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Main Characters

Among the multiple main characters, many fans agree that Joseph Joestar is the best protagonist in the series. This is because he is a breath of fresh air among all the other intense JoJo’s. He makes casual jokes and often pulls pranks but gets the job done at the end of the day.

On the other hand, his predecessor, Jonathan Joestar, is the least liked JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure protagonist. This is mainly because Jonathan was a character created in the 1980s, and his personality has not stood the test of time. While he is undoubtedly gentlemanly and heroic, there is not much depth or motivation that drives him. Hence, he is not one who particularly sticks in the minds of fans.

Conclusion

To conclude, each JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure main character brings a new flavor to the series, ensuring the story remains engaging through its nine parts. While the circumstances and powers of each protagonist are different, almost all of them have some factor of bravery or compassion in them.

This makes them the centerpiece of Araki’s masterpiece while fans eagerly wait for more JoJo content.
