Character Proficiency is a unique mechanic in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero that allows you to master characters of your choice and earn rewards along the way.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero provides players with a long list of iconic Dragon Ball characters that they can play as. This allows them to truly embrace the anime power fantasy. With a total of 181 characters, players are bound to have a favourite fighter. Revisiting a character over and over can help you in the Character Proficiency aspect of the game. This enables you to practice with and master certain characters while also earning valuable rewards in the process.

What is Character Proficiency in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero?
Character Proficiency can be seen as a measure of your experience with certain characters. This is not to be confused with the Player level, which is increased by earning EXP as you play the game. You can earn up to seven stars for the Character Proficiency of a specific character. When you increase your proficiency in a character, the game will notify you after completing a match.
Luckily, Character Proficiency is not entirely dependent on winning matches. You can progress through Character Proficiency by simply engaging in more combat with a specific character. However, it is important to remember that Character Proficiency has no impact on the actual gameplay in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. Increasing Character Proficiency only provides you with rewards from Zen-Oh. You earn different rewards such as icon titles and Zeni at Character Proficiency Levels 1, 4, & 7.
How to Increase Character Proficiency in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero?
There are a variety of scenarios and matches you can engage in to increase your Character Proficiency for a certain character. You will reach Character Proficiency Level 1 after your first match with a character. In order to earn higher Character Proficiency levels, you will have to rack up playtime with a character of your choice.
You can engage in fights like Episode Battles and Custom Battles. Episode Battles allow you to play through stories involving the Dragon Ball characters. Playing through these stories can not only provide a strong narrative but also enable you to increase your proficiency with that character. Custom Battles, on the other hand, open a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to story battles.
Other matches such as Bonus Battles and the World Tournament can also be great ways for you to engage with the game while mastering a specific character. Additionally, you can take part in Team Battles to raise Character Proficiency for five characters at the same time without even playing as all of them during a match.
