Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has been banned on subreddits like r/pics. He was also temporarily banned on Twitch in October.
Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold” is no stranger to finding himself in online drama. Recently, the streamer saw himself getting red-flagged from various Reddit communities. While the exact reason behind these bans is not quite clear, this comes after he made some controversial comments targeted at the Palestinian people last month (October). Speaking about his recent bans on r/pics, the former OTK member said this:
“Wait r/pics is also being…do you get automatically banned if you post r/pics if you’re on my subreddit? They auto-banned us? No sh*t! Okay, what are the rules (of r/pics)? I’m gonna post something. Okay, we’re gonna post something right now (Attempts to post an image). I didn’t get banned bro, I got aborted. I didn’t even get a chance to post. What did I f**king do? Is this what racism feels like? Am I being racism-ed?”
r/pics isn’t the only subreddit that has banned Zack. The MMORPG player also got booted from the Dragon Age subreddit. The streamer reacted:
“I get automatically banned from r/pics, Dragon Age, the Elon Musk subreddit has a bot that auto-bans your sub. We’re also getting banned on the Elon Musk subreddit?”
What Did Asmongold Say?
Asmongold has recently faced significant backlash for his comments about Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza. The streamer controversially labeled some of them as “terrible people,” which has sparked widespread criticism. He said:
“They have genocide baked into Sharia law right now, so no, I am not going to cry a f**king river when people who have genocide that’s baked into their laws are getting genocided. They are terrible people. It’s not even a question. It’s crazy that people don’t see it that way. They’d be doing the same thing.”
Following this, the Twitch streamer faced a two-week ban from Twitch. Additionally, OTK, the content organization he co-founded, decided to cut ties with him. Later, he addressed his comments, clarifying that he does not believe all Palestinians are bad and that his words were taken out of context. He said:
“It was r**arded to use Palestinians interchangeably with religious fanatics/terrorists. Obviously, not all people in Palestine are trash. It’s really not that complicated. Also–it wasn’t just that issue. Don’t let yourself become ideologically captured by a worldview to the point where it makes you so unreasonable that you turn into what you’re fighting against. No one ‘wins’ when I stand behind a statement that’s false or a mischaracterization.”
However, it remains unclear if his recent Reddit bans are somehow connected to this incident. For those wondering, the streamer’s own subreddit (r/Asmongold) is still active, with a community of over 419K members.
