As of now, there’s no word on the international release date of the movie. However, you can expect it to come to light shortly after its premiere in Japan. Given that the same staff who work on the original anime usually handle the compilation films as well, we can expect Shota Goshozono to return as the director of the Hidden Inventory movie. The story of Gojo’s Past arc, otherwise known as the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc, takes place 12 years before the main story’s timeline.
In other words, it takes place in the year 2006. The story follows Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto when they were second-year students at Tokyo Jujutsu High. The narrative centers on their mission to protect Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel, who has to merge with Master Tengen to maintain the balance of the Jujutsu world. On the other hand, various curse-user groups want to prevent this merger due to their delusional beliefs. To accomplish this goal, they commissioned multiple assassins to kill Amanai.
What started out as a fairly straightforward escort mission quickly spiraled into chaos when Toji Fushiguro, the infamous Sorcerer Killer, entered the picture. With his strategic mind and unmatched assassination skills, he managed to defeat both Gojo and Geto, following which he successfully disposed of Amanai. However, his brutal fight against Gojo pushed the latter to go through a major awakening.
In their rematch, Gojo effortlessly overpowers Toji and kills him with his evolved techniques. Gojo’s encounter with Toji led him to evolve and cement his status as the strongest jujutsu sorcerer of the modern era. Meanwhile, Geto’s own worldview began crumbling as he started to question his purpose as a sorcerer. Moreover, he struggled to be a cog in the constant cycle of death, exorcism, and consumption. It ultimately led him down a dark path, which eventually turned him into the antagonist we saw in Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Why Is the Hidden Inventory Arc Being Adapted Into a Movie?
Given how masterfully MAPPA Studios adapted the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, many fans questioned the purpose of recapping it in a compilation film. On one hand, it would offer fans the chance to experience this climactic arc in a cinematic style, perhaps with improved animation, remastered scenes, and even additional content.
On the contrary, the decision to adapt Gojo’s Past arc in a compilation film might raise a few questions about the anime industry’s growing trend of repackaging existing content. As such, some may ask, will this movie actually offer something new, or is it simply a cash grab that will capitalize on the anime’s monumental success?
