The Boruto manga is a direct sequel to the original Naruto series. Masashi Kishimoto is responsible for a substantial amount of the story’s progression, as well as the characters that have made their appearance in the animanga series. The protagonist of the series is usually beloved by most fans. However, that was not the case, and he received plenty of negative comments from those who read the manga. That being said, things started to change when the Two Blue Vortex manga made its debut.

The protagonist’s characterization in Two Blue Vortex was a massive step up. The initial version of the protagonist didn’t appeal to the fans. Most of them were annoyed with the way he was brought up. Boruto acted rather entitled and didn’t have a good relationship with his father.

Seeing Naruto struggle all his life to see his son act out struck a nerve. His characterization in the Two Blue Vortex manga showed plenty of redeeming qualities. Let’s take a closer look at how the character was presented during the earlier parts of the series and how he has grown in the series.

The protagonist was a bit of a brat when he was first introduced in the show. He constantly acted out and even cheated in the Chunin Exams. This was a massive problem for fans because they had grown up watching Naruto struggle at every juncture of his life. Naruto lost his parents at a very young age and genuinely appreciated the parental figures in his life. However, Boruto didn’t seem to appreciative. He was portrayed as a rebellious child who wanted to have his way at all times.

It’s quite natural for fans to be upset since he is expected to take on Naruto’s mantle and not leave a bad mark on his legacy. The Chunin Exam fiasco was a turning point in the series. Therefore, viewers were not happy with how he was portrayed in the manga. His attitude towards his father only added fuel to the fire.

He hated that people constantly saw him as the Hokage’s son. While his frustration was valid, he didn’t have to take it out on his father, who did everything he could to keep his family and his village safe. He vehemently opposed the idea of becoming the Hokage and he looked up to Sasuke instead. However, even Sasuke showed Boruto his father’s humble beginnings which seemed to have changed his opinions eventually.

As mentioned earlier, Boruto wasn’t always on the best terms with his father. However, that slowly changed as the series progressed. Boruto was quite annoyed that his father was never at home and he didn’t spend time with his family. However, he slowly started to realize just how heavy his father’s shoulders were, given that he was the leader of the village. He was not only responsible for his family’s lives but also the lives of every single person who resided in the village. When threats like Isshiki Otsutsuki were running rampant, it was Naruto who neutralized the situation.

The protagonist also spent plenty of time with Sasuke, who respected Naruto more than anyone he knew. His mentee also realized just how far Naruto had come. He wasn’t blessed with abilities the way Sasuke was, and he fought at every juncture of his life to get to where he was. Naruto’s son started to develop a certain degree of respect for his father as the story progressed, which fans loved watching.

Why Did Two Blue Vortex Readers Enjoy Boruto’s Character Progression?

Boruto’s character development felt quite organic in the manga. There came a point where Naruto was no longer as strong as he once was. It was time for Boruto to step up, and he did. Kawaki sealed Naruto and Hinata in a dimension where time doesn’t flow. The entire village hunted him down and forced him to flee from the village, all thanks to Eida’s Omnipotence. However, he returned to the village three years later having gotten incredibly strong. He surpassed Sasuke in his prime, which goes to show just how powerful he became.

He showcased a level of maturity that you expect from someone who has been tasked with responsibilities similar to that of a Hokage. Furthermore, he dearly missed Sarada Uchiha and it was seen in his interaction with her. However, he was focused on his mission and continued to risk his life to fight the likes of Jura and other Shinju entities.

There is a shift in his behavior and he seems a lot more stoic. Fans are happy to see just how far he has come in the story. The gradual change from being a brat to being a mature protagonist shows his character development. Furthermore, the development was quite organic which is why fans loved to see him in Two Blue Vortex. The stark contrast is one of the reasons why he is popular in this installation of the manga series.

The village elders managed to interrogate Boruto after capturing him. However, he managed to escape with Shikamaru’s help. He had the chance to reveal Kawaki’s involvement and his connection to Naruto’s current status. However, he didn’t do that just yet. He is trying to keep Konoha safe while the village itself has initiated a manhunt. Furthermore, he is tasked with taking on the Shinju who are currently threatening the very existence of the village.

It’s evident, Masashi Kishimoto and Ukiyo Kodachi are trying to test the character’s limits. At this point, he is currently facing the pressure that any Hokage must have faced when protecting their village.
