Netflix has been rapidly expanding its anime catalogue, with titles such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners gaining widespread acclaim. Its most recent venture is continuing this journey, appealing to both game and anime fans.

Devil May Cry is a beloved action-packed video game that will come under the Netflix banner, being adapted by veterans of the industry. Although Studio Madhouse created an anime version in 2007, it did not receive a positive reception.

However, with the recent teaser and opening credits of the new series, fans have become very excited again. Hence, here is everything we know so far regarding the series.

Please note that while the series is being referred to as an “anime” by the fandom, it is not a traditional Japanese series. It has American origins and is being animated by a Korean studio that has adapted several American TV shows.

Devil May Cry Anime Release Information

The Devil May Cry anime is currently set to release on April 3, 2025, on Netflix. While there is currently no known release time, Netflix tends to release most new shows and movies at 12 am Pacific Time. This would translate into 1:30 pm IST, 5 pm JST, and 3 am ET.

Fans were initially hesitant about a new Devil May Cry series due to its past failure, but their unrest was soon settled. This is because the anime was revealed to be created by Adi Shankar, the mind behind the Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk shows. Alex Larsen is credited as the writer, known for works such as Yasuke.

Additionally, Studio Mir is adapting the anime. This South Korean studio is well-known among American audiences, having adapted The Legend of Korra and X-Men ‘97. Anime fans are also well-acquainted with the group since they adapted the Lookism anime.

The intro of the anime features the song “Rollin’” by Limp Bizkit. The band is very popular among older audiences, which re-establishes Devil May Cry’s attempt to appeal to adult age groups as well.

The Devil May Cry anime is currently believed to feature characters such as Dante, Lady and Vergil. While most cast members haven’t been revealed, the protagonist Dante will be voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch for the English dub of the show.

Bosch is a veteran of the industry, having given the English voice to characters like Lelouch and Ichigo. Notably, he is also the voice of Nero, a character from the Devil May Cry game. Since this is an animated series, many fans were left confused as to why Dante’s voice actor from the game, Reuben Langdon, was not chosen.

However, Langdon revealed he was never contacted regarding the role. As we inch closer to the anime release date, we will likely find out about other cast members.

While the story of the upcoming Devil May Cry series is yet to be revealed, most fans believe this to be an adaptation of the Devil May Cry 3 game. This is because the third installment is a prequel, showing a younger and more reckless Dante.

Created by Capcom, the games are set in a world where a half-human, half-demon hunter named Dante battles several supernatural threats with his swords and guns. With the impending threat of a portal that could connect the human realm with the demon world, Dante will have no choice but to face these events head-on.

Since Adi Shankar has a great reputation among fans, they trust the anime adaptation to remain faithful to the games. Viewers can expect a fast-paced story filled with explosive action, high stakes, and a captivating protagonist.

Conclusion

Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated gaming adaptations in recent years. With an experienced team behind it, the series has the potential to do justice to Capcom’s legendary franchise.

While some details remain undisclosed, all indications suggest the anime will be a dynamic adaptation of its source.
