After years worth of waiting, Nintendo has finally announced the Nintendo Switch 2, with more news teased for Nintendo Direct 2025. While there isn’t an official release date yet, it is rumored to come out in 2025.
Nintendo made their announcement public via YouTube, teasing their latest product, the successor to Nintendo Switch. Let’s take a look at everything we know about Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 Official Announcement
As seen in the official reveal trailer for the Switch 2, more information like the release date and specifications of the console might be provided in the Nintendo Direct event on April 2, 2025.
The Switch 2 reveal shows off its fresh design that features a bigger screen, newly placed buttons, a modified kickstand, and more. According to the reveal trailer, the console will run both digital and physical Switch games. However, some titles might not be compatible on this new console. Here’s what the official statement says:
“Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.”
As of now, all fans can do is wait for Nintendo to announce more details on the console in their upcoming event. However, the community can rest easy knowing that it would support backward compatibility, a better GPU, and an upgraded display.
