Sumire’s obsession with Boruto in the Two Blue Vortex could potentially lead to her and the village’s downfall
The Boruto manga series has progressed considerably over the past couple of months. There are plenty of reasons why the manga has done well. However, the main reason for its great reception is the rise in stakes. Therefore, it is quite hard for characters to explore their romantic relationships in the series. However, Sumire’s obsession with Boruto came up once again in the Two Blue Vortex manga.
Fans have been discussing this topic for quite some time. Sumire highlighted her love for Boruto once again in the manga. However, the fanbase is quite unhappy with this instance because of the current situation in the anime. While Konohagakure enjoyed a period of peace, things aren’t going well for the village.
The Shinju have terrorized the village and there isn’t a single shinobi who can neutralize Jura at the moment. The number of Shinju entities is increasing as the days advance, and Sumire seems to be concerned about her romantic feelings. Let’s take a look at how Sumire’s obsession with Boruto could lead to dire consequences.
Sumire’s Relationship With Boruto
It is quite clear that Sumire is in love with the protagonist. She has shown a clear interest in him and the recent chapters from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga series confirmed that. She was quite unhappy that Sarada leaped into his arms when he first entered Konohagakure after 3 years. Sumire understood Sarada’s feelings, but she couldn’t help but feel sad because she wasn’t in Sarada’s place. Therefore, it’s quite clear that Sumire and Boruto’s relationship is quite one-sided.
Sumire was quite pressed Sarada kept calling her class rep because she didn’t want that to be her identity. Furthermore, Boruto’s first interaction with Sumire was quite odd. That being said, there is one candidate for Boruto’s love interest and fans seem to have a strong hunch about her. Boruto could potentially end up with Sarada Uchiha in the manga series.
However, this is under the assumption that things will die down and the protagonist is alive by the end of it all. There are many variables in the equation that need to be accounted for. Momoshiki still exists within Boruto and the Shinju are only the start of his long list of problems. Additionally, the village elders still suspect him of killing Naruto and Hinata, which was recently resolved. The elders might not believe that Naruto and Hinata are alive, but it’s clear that there is a lot of tension between the two parties.
When this is settled, Kishimoto and his team could allocate a few chapters for the protagonist to explore his romantic relationship. When this happens, it’s quite likely that he will do so with Sarada Uchiha at the end of the Two Blue Vortex manga.
How Could Sumire’s Obsession With Boruto Lead to Her Downfall
If there is one thing that’s common in popular media, it’s the sheer scale of stupidity in people’s actions for love. One can take an example from this series’ predecessor. Obito saw his best friend kill the love of his life. Instead of confronting Kakashi, he quite literally started a war involving numerous nations that threatened the existence of the human race.
Therefore, it’s not altogether impossible for Sumire to do something similar to what Obito did. As such, there are plenty of theories floating around on the internet regarding Sumire and her connection to the Otsutsuki.
The fan theories connect Sumire’s Gozu Tenno seal to Sasuke’s reaction. He stated that the seal was quite close to the techniques used by the Otsutsuki. Madara took years to adapt to the new Hashirama cells implanted in him. Meanwhile, Sumire was just a child and she was able to use the technique almost instantly.
Fans suspect that she is of Otsutsuki descent. Sumire’s obsession could ultimately act as fuel to the fire, that is her Otsutsuki lineage. However, this is speculative since it is a fan theory.
Why Sumire Should Move on in the Boruto Manga?
It’s safe to assume that this romantic pursuit will not end well. However, she seems to cling to Boruto and this could spell disaster for her. Sumire should move on since her obsession with the protagonist could slowly become extremely unhealthy. Therefore, it will cause her a great deal of grief and potentially sever her relationship with Sarada and Boruto.
She considers Sarada her friend and it’s better to accept reality and move on without burning bridges. Additionally, they are her comrades at the end of the day. She spends a considerable amount of time with them on the battlefield. Therefore, it’s essential to have good chemistry with them during missions wherein the safety of the village hangs in the balance.

Sumire’s obsession with Boruto will do her no good. It’s unlikely that he feels the same way about her and this could hurt her relationship with the likes of Sarada as well. If Sumire continues to cling to Boruto, the unhealthy obsession can lead people to do things that they regret. Based on what we have seen so far, she cherishes her company with Boruto and Sarada.
