One Piece features a variety of distinctive crews led by fascinating captains. Among them, the Roger Pirates are one of the most legendary, led by the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. While the crew disbanded long before the current timeline of the series, their members and contributions still play an important role in the world’s events.

Hence, let us take a closer look at the Roger Pirates in One Piece through this comprehensive guide.

Who Are the Roger Pirates in One Piece?

The Roger Pirates are a crew that needs no introduction in One Piece, as they remain the only ones to achieve what every pirate dreams of. Led by the charismatic Pirate King, they traversed the entire Grand Line, reached Laugh Tale, and discovered the One Piece.

Throughout their journey, they discovered the true history of the world and the Void Century, earning the ire of the World Government. However, even after disbandment, the crew members refuse to share details regarding this. They believe this would do a disservice to a pirate’s adventurous nature and their captain’s legacy.

The crew sailed on the Oro Jackson, made from the Treasure Tree Adam. They were also immensely influential, protecting multiple islands and inspiring countless pirates of the newer generation. Despite breaking up after achieving their goal and Roger dying, many members still wield a lot of power. These figures have massive bounties and have impacted the Straw Hats’ journey.

Most importantly, while the Roger Pirates were technically criminals, they were very well-respected. Members took pride in being part of the crew while even some Marines recognized the good they do for society.

The Roger Pirates set off on their journey over 52 years before the current timeline, when Roger began collecting members to join him on his journey.  After several years of adventures, they discovered the last island on the Log Pose.

However, Roger refused to believe this as he knew the secrets of the Road Poneglyph. While continuing their journey, the crew played an important role in the God Valley Incident. They teamed up with the Marines to stop Xebec’s attack, protecting the citizens on the island.

Following this, Roger discovered that he had an incurable disease and would die soon. Rather than being demotivated, his spirit of exploration only increased. His crew followed him faithfully, defeating the Golden Lion Pirates and even fighting the Whitebeard Pirates in Paradise.

The Roger Pirates continued to greatly impact the events of One Piece. They even recruited Oden to read the Poneglyphs. Finally, Roger and his followers travelled to a variety of places such as Skypiea, Fish-Man Island, Wano and Zou, finding all the Road Poneglyphs.

With this, the Roger Pirates reached the true final island, Laugh Tale. They discovered the One Piece and Joy Boy’s secret. Roger disbanded the crew after this, kicking off the Great Pirate Era right before his execution.

This pirate crew stands as a testament to Oda’s mastery over writing. Despite never appearing as a group during the current timeline, their name brings about excitement. They traveled through all the necessary islands, exploring the artifacts required to find the greatest treasure of them all.
