This involves drinking a cup of Yhwach’s blood, following which he can carve powers into the souls of Quincies. These powers are generally represented by the initials of the alphabet and become a key part of the Sternritter’s identity. They transcend just fighting ability and go on to reflect their user’s psychological framework and personality as well.
Schrifts are a part of Yhwach’s power and soul, returning to him upon the Sternritter’s death. However, that doesn’t mean that he can use every Schrift. What Is Different About Pernida and Gerard’s Schrift
Among all his followers, Pernida Parnkgjas and Gerard Valkyrie’s Schrifts are fundamentally different from the rest. While they have been assigned letters by Yhwach, their abilities were not a result of the Quincy King’s ritual.
Rather, The Compulsory and The Miracle are abilities that the characters already have. This is because Pernida was originally the left hand of the Soul King, while Gerard is implied to be his heart. Following the parts of the Soul King being split apart, they ended up becoming sentient and joining Yhwach’s army.
Hence, to honor their identities as Quincies, Yhwach provided them with nominal Schrifts, but the powers of the Schrifts themselves are inherent. Additionally, it must be noted that Yhwach’s Schrift—The Almighty—is something he always possessed as the son of the Soul King. As the one handing out Schrifts to others, the king’s abilities also arise from different circumstances than most of his soldiers.
Who Has the Strongest Schrift Ability
There is no doubt that The Almighty is the strongest Schrift ability since it allows Yhwach to see and alter the future as he deems fit. He used this to defeat Ichibe, one of the strongest characters in the series.
However, not considering the Quincy King, there is heavy debate on the strongest Schrift. Many believe it to be Gerard’s The Miracle. This allows him to succeed in any way by shifting the probabilities in his favor. Any damage dealt to him is converted into power, making him near-impossible to kill.
In direct contrast to this, Haschwalth’s The Balance realigns the scales of fortune while allowing him to distribute misfortune to anyone he believes is overly fortunate. Additionally, Jugram Haschwalth can also use the powers of The Almighty when Yhwach is asleep at night. While he can only see the future and not alter it like Yhwach, it is still a very useful ability.
The above two Schrifts are what a majority of the fandom believes to be the strongest among the Sternritter, but another one that was defeated before it was ever fully explored is Gremmy’s The Visionary. This lets him turn any fantasy into reality, no matter how unlikely it sounds. It can involve everything from summoning meteorites to creating life itself. Many fans believe that this ability was beaten too quickly in the Thousand-Year Blood War and its only weakness is the limitation of one’s imagination.
