The Naruto universe has given us a variety of memorable groups, whether it be the heroic Team 7 or the evil Akatsuki. Its successor, Boruto, continues this legacy through Kara. As an organization of unparalleled power and a grand purpose, this group has been influencing the series’ events through the shadows. So, who created Kara in Boruto?

Kara was created by Isshiki Otsutsuki with the goal of fulfilling the will of the Otsutsuki Clan and cultivating the chakra fruit. The organization’s structure is extensive and intricate, with a high level of secrecy maintained even among its members. Here is a closer look at Kara.

Who Is Isshiki Otsutsuki?

Before getting to know about Kara, it is crucial to know of its creator, Isshiki Otsutsuki. Considered by many to be the strongest in the universe after Kaguya, Isshiki had accompanied her in the past during their arrival on Earth.

Initially introduced with the goal of creating the God Tree and taking its fruit, Kaguya betrayed Isshiki to gain ultimate power for herself. Left at the edge of death by his partner, Isshiki barely escaped, invading a nearby monk named Jigen.

Through this new form, he set out on his path to cultivating the God Tree yet again. To ensure his body was in optimal condition, he prepared new vessels with his Kama mark. Kawaki was the sum of these experiments.

However, the process of creating the God Tree involved several preparations, including feeding the Ten-Tails with an Otsutsuki. While Isshiki had planned on doing this himself, he got an alternative when Momoshiki entered Boruto.

To properly carry out his plans while controlling powerful forces from the villages, Isshiki created Kara.

What Is Kara in Boruto?

Kara is a clandestine organization that worked through the shadows unbeknownst to most people. Unlike the Akatsuki, whose goals were political and ideological, Kara’s singular focus was Isshiki’s wishes. They worked towards cultivating the God Tree and taking the chakra fruit.

The members didn’t all join with no expectations, having been promised by Isshiki to have their wishes fulfilled. However, what they didn’t realize was that Isshiki’s plan would destroy the planet in the end. While it would be of little importance to a celestial Otsutsuki, his supporters would be heavily disillusioned by the outcome. Hence, when Amado discovered this, he worked from within Kara to disrupt Isshiki’s plans.

Kara is split into two main groups – Inners and Outers. As the name suggests, the Inners are the inner circle of Kara, dedicated more than the rest to its cause. They possess Otsutsuki DNA and are in charge of particular regions. Each of them has a facial tattoo of a Roman numeral and black hooded cloaks.

Outers are more loosely-affiliated agents who support Kara’s goals by working under the Inners. They are responsible for undermining the power of the villages while also promoting technological advancement. They all have dreams of obtaining great wealth and power through the organization but are ultimately expendable.

Kara has several notable members, each making unique contributions to the series. These include:

  • Isshiki Otsutsuki – The creator and leader of Kara, operating through Jigen’s vessel. The organization runs mainly according to his ideologies, following the Otsutsuki will.

  • Code – Isshiki’s most loyal officer who becomes the leader of Kara after the Otsutsuki’s demise. He possesses the White Kama, which can make his powers even greater than Jigen’s.

  • Koji Kashin – A clone of Jiraiya created by Amado in order to kill Isshiki. He was a former Inner who went on to become a mentor to Boruto.

  • Amado Sanzu – A former Inner and main head of Kara’s research and development division. Amado gave technological advancements to every Kara member, granting them monstrous abilities. However, upon finding Isshiki’s true motives, he defected to Konoha.

  • Delta – A clone of Amado’s daughter and Inner of Kara. While initially an antagonist, she is reprogrammed by Amado to become an ally of Konoha.

  • Boro – A leader of Kara who ran a cult worshipping the Otsutsukis. Despite having strong virus-based powers, he was destroyed by Momoshiki-possessed Boruto.

  • Ao – A heroic ninja who secretly worked as an Outer of Kara. In spite of relying on new scientific tools, he was defeated by Boruto and killed by Koji.

  • Eida –  A supporter of Kara simply because of aligning objectives. Eida is neither an Inner nor Outer, assisting Code for the sake of getting a boyfriend.

Significance of Kara in Boruto

It is not an overestimation to say that Kara has been the most significant part of Boruto. The group and its members have directly or indirectly contributed to every single event in the series, causing both tragedy and character development.

Due to Isshiki, Kawaki was introduced, becoming an adoptive brother of Boruto. This led to the rivalry between the main characters as well as Boruto’s inferiority complex. It drove a wedge between him and his father, especially when a scientist manipulated by Kara gave the protagonist technological enhancements.

As the series proceeded, the cast had several exhilarating fights against Kara. Baryon Mode Naruto’s fight against Isshiki and the heartbreaking conclusion remain one of the most memorable moments in all of anime.

Even after Isshiki’s death, Code inherited his ideals. Eida’s support of him, paired with her Omnipotence abilities, directly led to the entire world being rewritten. This caused Boruto to be labelled a villain, leading up to the events of Two Blue Vortex.

In this Boruto sequel, Kara remains equally relevant. Code’s control over the Ten-Tails and Claw Grimes helped create the latest antagonists of the series – the Human God Trees. Code is unable to keep control over them but is forced to accept their existence and power, hoping they will carry out the Otsutsuki will.

Through the introduction of these new beings, the internal complexity of Kara has greatly increased. As we go further in Two Blue Vortex, fans will eagerly wait to see who the final antagonist of Boruto is.

Conclusion

Kara in Boruto is a testament to the series’ evolution, blending supernatural abilities and celestial goals to create a formidable antagonist group. Initially coming together to follow Isshiki, they have become a more layered organization since his demise. Nevertheless, their actions still drive the plot forward, speaking volumes of their importance.
