Who is Asta’s mother in Black Clover? Taking a look at the character who is indirectly responsible for his anti-magic abilities
The Black Clover series has progressed considerably. This is the case for the manga and not the anime, because the latter has not released any content in years. That being said, the community has been quite active over the past couple of months. There are many characters that are shrouded in mystery. For example, Yami Sukehiro’s roots have not been revealed in the anime yet. However, the manga deliberated on this topic and proceeded to show Yami’s backstory as well.
Similarly, there is another person in Black Clover who is important to the story. That person is Asta’s mother. She has a link to Asta’s anti-magic capabilities, and more information about her will be shown in the anime. Licita is Asta’s mother in Black Clover. She gave birth to Asta and also acted as Liebe’s adoptive mother. The latter is a devil whose outlook was altered thanks to Licita’s attitude towards him. These two characters haven’t received much screen time in the manga series. However, fans enjoyed seeing these characters on stage. Furthermore, it added another layer to Asta’s character. Who is Asta’s Mother in Black Clover?
As mentioned earlier, Licita is Asta’s mother in Black Clover. She made her debut in episode 162 of the series. The anime series adapted the portion of the manga that introduced her to the fanbase. This is when the story was covering the source of Asta’s powers. As mentioned, she birthed Asta and adopted Liebe. Asta’s mother died protecting Liebe from Lucifero. The latter was the ruler of all devils.
Asta’s mother lived alone. In fact, she even abandoned her child. She left Asta with the orphanage, even though it pained her deeply. However, there is a reason for this harsh decision. She had a unique condition, wherein her body would drain the life forces of the people around her. She wanted her son to live a good life and decided to part ways with him. This is also why she lived a life of seclusion. Liebe was injured and needed care. She tended to his injuries, and she was surprised that his life forces weren’t being drained.
Technically she could have lived with Asta because he had no magic. However, Licita had no way of knowing that. This is why she abandoned her only child. Licita had a decent grasp of the basic magic abilities. Much like everyone else who can use magic, Licita also had a Grimoire.
Licita’s Abilities in Black Clover
As mentioned earlier, Licita didn’t receive much screen time in the animanga series. However, fans got a glimpse of her abilities in the series. She had a Grimoire, which indicated that she was a mage. However, her magic was quite specific and unique. Licita had the innate ability to store objects without mana within other objects. This was quite useful because she never had to carry large objects or luggage. She could seal mana-less objects inside other items. This power came in handy when Lucifer attempted to take over Liebe’s body. She used this ability to seal Liebe into the five-leaf clover Grimoire.
Licita automatically absorbed magic and life forces from people around her. This is also why she lived a life of solace and solitude. Liebe was able to live with her since he was a devil. This was an indication that devils were immune to her ability to absorb magic.
Who is Liebe in Black Clover?
Liebe is a low-ranked devil in the Black Clover series. He was in the first level of the underworld and was tormented daily. He initially resided in Licht’s Grimoire, which Asta now possesses. This is how he gave Asta anti-magic abilities in the series. A devil from the Underworld threw Liebe out of the Underworld, and this sent him to the Living World. He managed to pass through the gates because he had no magic. That’s when Licita found him, and the two lived a carefree life. His perception of the devils changed because of the treatment he received from Licita.
Lucifero realized that a devil was living outside the Underworld. He attempted to take over Liebe’s body at the time. Licita interfered, and Lucifero forced Liebe to kill his adoptive mother by taking over his body. Moments before Lucifero could take over Liebe, she prevented that from happening and sealed Liebe in a five-leaf clover Grimoire. He was able to live and grow up without Lucifero’s interference.
The two had a rough start during the earlier stages of Black Clover. However, the two get along well as the manga progresses. In fact, Liebe also notices the similarities that Licita and Asta share. They become a powerful duo capable of taking on some of the strongest devils and Paladins in the Black Clover series.
Asta and Liebe’s Relationship in Black Clover
Liebe didn’t care much for Asta during the earlier stages of Black Clover. He had one plan in mind, and that involved killing all devils. He wanted to find a way to kill all of them. They tortured Liebe every day, and he didn’t know what kindness or affection was until he met Licita. Therefore, he saw Asta as a tool to kill the devils. However, things changed when Nacht summoned Liebe to form a contract with Asta. The latter could have any binding contract if he defeated the devil. Asta managed to do so. Liebe feared that Asta would have a binding contract that would take advantage of his abilities. Instead, Asta asked Liebe to become his friend. That changed the course of the relationship as Liebe noticed the similarities that he and Licita shared.
Conclusion
Licita was an important character because she was responsible for Asta receiving the anti-magic abilities. She might not have received much screen time, but she was integral to the series’ progression. Licita was a good mother who took the harsh decision to abandon her son because of her abilities. She also helped Liebe and showed him just how kind the human race could be. Even in her dying moments, she helped Liebe escape from Lucifero. This goes to show what a wonderful character she was in Black Clover.
