The series has a rich lore spanning over a millennium, giving rise to legends from history. Yorozu is one such figure, often overlooked by the fandom due to her lack of screen time. Nevertheless, she is a distinctive individual in the series with a unique personality and memorable powers. So, who is Yorozu in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Yorozu is an ancient sorcerer from the Heian Era who gets reincarnated in the body of Tsumiki Fushiguro during the Culling Game. She is crucial for Sukuna to achieve his heinous plan, helping the antagonist become more formidable. Here is a closer look at her character.
Who Is Yorozu in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Yorozu is a renowned sorcerer who resided in Aizu during the Heian Era. She was an impulsive woman with no tact, acting in a self-satisfactory manner. Despite having been reputable for her mastery over Jujutsu techniques and defeating the Five Empty Generals of the Fujiwara Clan, Yorozu cared little for her fame.
Rather, she ran into Sukuna during the Harvest Festival and was instantly captivated by him. She wished to cure his loneliness, though immediately attacked by the King of Curses. This only deepened her feelings for him, eventually converting to a twisted form of affection.
Yorozu is completely obsessed with Sukuna, even hoping to kill him so she can have him all to herself. She shows a childish side when faced with the prospect of marrying him after defeating him, which only adds to her erratic nature.
Yorozu’s Role in Jujutsu Kaisen
Yorozu’s role in Jujutsu Kaisen is that of a minor antagonist meant to smoothen Sukuna’s process of controlling Megumi Fushiguro’s body. After meeting him in the past, she agreed to be turned into a cursed object by Kenjaku.
Following this, she was consumed by Megumi’s sister, Tsumiki. Though she didn’t awaken for a long time, Kenjaku completed her reincarnation in preparation for the Culling Game. Following this, Yorozu tricked Megumi and the main cast, putting on the act of being Tsumiki.
However, when Megumi gave her the chance to exit the dangerous Culling Game, Yorozu revealed her true intentions. In a shocking turn of events, she stunned Megumi by explaining how she had taken over Tsumiki’s body. She then shared her desire to fight Sukuna and become one with him before leaving the scene.
This began the chaotic series of events where Sukuna took over Itadori’s body and changed his vessel to Megumi Fushiguro. Soon after this, the villain went to grant Yorozu her wish, fighting her in the Sendai Colony.
While Yorozu’s main objective for this fight was to kill Sukuna, expressing love in her own way, the King of Curses wished to plunge Megumi’s soul even deeper into the abyss by making him fight his sister. This ended up working favorably.
Yorozu’s Strengths and Abilities
Yorozu is an exceptional fighter with one of the highest intellects in Jujutsu Kaisen. Her senses, strength and durability are proficient enough to give Sukuna and his Ten Shadows technique an even match. In addition to this, she mainly shines with her cursed energy.
Her primary technique is called Construction, allowing her to create any substance from memory. This is enhanced by her manipulation of liquid metal, having changeable volume but stable physical properties. To make her use of cursed energy more efficient, Yorozu is inspired by insects. She can fly using insect wings and has an impressive insect armor that greatly elevates her physicality.
Along with this, Yorozu is the only one in the series capable of creating a True Sphere. Making a perfect sphere is generally considered impossible, though she can achieve this with liquid metal. The sphere generates infinite pressure, is untouchable and leaves a devastating impact should it hit a target.
This is complemented by Yorozu’s Domain Expansion, Threefold Affliction. This is an ambiguous ability that was never properly shown in the series. However, based on what was seen, the domain is a blank space meant to give the True Sphere a sure-hit effect.
Yorozu’s Final Fate in Jujutsu Kaisen
A major gripe fans have with Yorozu is that she merely served as a tool for Sukuna and Kenjaku’s plans despite being a great figure from history. After her reincarnation, this sorcerer engaged in an electrifying battle against Sukuna, now with Megumi’s body.
She was originally disappointed that her opponent only used his new form’s techniques, refusing to use his slashes. However, she was on her toes against Sukuna’s Ten Shadows ability. At this point, Yorozu unveiled her True Sphere, looking to end the battle with her Domain Expansion.
Unfortunately, her move was countered by Sukuna, who summoned Maharoga. The shikigami landed a finishing blow to Yorozu, crushing her down to the ground. Despite being defeated, Yorozu took pleasure in the fact that she lost against the man she loved.
In her dying moments, she constructed Sukuna a cursed tool called Kamutoke. The King of Curses, on the other hand, succeeded with his main goal. He had used Megumi’s body to kill Tsumiki’s body. This broke Megumi’s soul, allowing Sukuna to completely suppress him.
Some fans were upset by the wasted potential of Yorozu while others appreciated the short-term impact she had. While we would have loved to know more about her past, connection to Sukuna and distinctive personality, she helped the King of Curses transform into the fearsome main antagonist.
